WOLFE
Concluded from p. 2
she retired in 1975.
In 1953, she married
Everett F. Wolfe and they
established their home in
West Des Moines, where
Maxine helped Everett
raise three of his children
from a previous marriage.
Her door was always open
to any family member who
needed a place to stay and
she will always be remem-
bered for her selflessness
and generosity. Mrs. Wolfe
will be interred with a pair
of her husband's shoes
since she never found an-
other man who could fill
them. Maxine and Everett
were best friends with
Thelma and John Shepler
of rural Oril]a.
Very independent, Mrs.
Wolfe gave up driving
only last October. In her
retirement, she looked af-
ter her mother for many
years and, in later life, took
up traveling and enjoyed
casino gambling. The
highlight of her travels
was a month-long trip to
Alaska in 1988. She was
also an avid fisherwoman
and liked to travel north
with her husband and
family to fish. She orga-
nized several reunions for
her high school class and
also enjoyed watching
television, especially Iowa
and Iowa State games, and
taking her family out for
meals. Maxine was always
amazed by the growth of
West Des Moines and was
a frequent walker and
shopper at the malls.
Mrs. Wolfe credits her
long, healthy life to just not
stopping. Having smoked
in death by her husband
and parents. She had one
beloved older brother,
Freeman (Margaret) Hat-
field; one cherished
younger sister, Betty
(Maurice) Nelson; and a
stepdaughter, Delores
(Dale) Madison, as well as
a grandson and a great-
grandson, all deceased.

three stepsons, Leonard
Wolfe of Windsor Heights,
Everett S. Wolfe and Rex
(Kathy) Wolfe, both from
rural Cumming; and one

roll of Aurora, IL. Also sur-
viving her is a niece, Deb-
bie Beery of Urbandale
and a nephew, Scott (Di-
ane) Hatfield of West Des
Moines. She leaves behind
12 grandchildren, 19 great-
grandchildren, 13 great-
great-grandchildren; and
