Senate News
By State Senator Julian B. Garrett

Reflections on 2013
As we come to the end of the year, it is natural to
think back over the year that is coming to a close and to
look forward to the Coming year. Looking back on the
2013 legislative session, I was pleased that we were able
to continue spending less than the state receives in rev-
enue. We passed property tax and education reform
bills. Even though both were a result of compromises
with the Democrats in the Senate, they did move us for-
ward.
We must all remember, and thank, our men and
women in uniform, especially those who are overseas
away from their families, They sacrifice to protect our
way of life.
An important event for me personally was the move
from the House of Representatiyes to the Iowa Senate,
as a result of the special election. I now represent nearly
all of Warren County as well as Madison County. I am
looking forward to working on the issues that I ran on,
as I have in the House. I should find out soon what com-
mittees I will serve on.
Another big event in our family was the marriage of
son Jeff last November to a wonderful young lady. We
are pleased to have her as an addition to our family. As
do many families, we traditionally get together with our
extended family for a few days around Christmas time.
It is a great honor to have the privilege of represent-
ing you in the Iowa Legislature. I am looking forward
to hearing from you as the session proceeds.
As always, feel'free to contact me with your ideas or
concerns.
