Follow the on- screen directions and you will be registered before you know it. AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE Anyone interested in learning American Sign Lan- guage? We have a new instructor that has moved into the area and is willing to put on a class. If we have enough interest, we will line up a class after the first of the year. Please call or email us and let us kno; 515- or parksandrec@mchsi.com. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SIGN UPS Parks and Recreation doesn't offer baseball or soft- ball for grades 5 and 6. Norwalk Softball League and Twin Rivers Baseball do offer such programs for area children. Their sign ups will be January 16 and January 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Norwalk Easter Public Library. For more information about their league, you can contact JaM Livingston (jaki.livingston@ polkcountyi6wa.gov) or Jason Lane (jlane@commonwealthelectric.com). Norwalk Parks and Recreation sign up for baseball and softball will be in March for PK thru 4th grade. FAMILY BINGO NIGHT Stop by the library and enjoy an evening of Bingo and tasty treats. Bring munchies or snacks to share with all and we will provide the beverage. All ages are in- vited to participate. Bingo callers will be the .Norwalk Lions Club Members. Registration: Phone call to office by Friday prior to the Sunday. EARLY OUT WEDNESDAYS Parks and Rec plans to offer afternoon field trips to various attractions in and around the metro area for kids wanting to participate in an activity on early out after- noons from school. These "early out" trips are for kids in 4th and 5th grade. Students will be supervised at school between 12 and 1:15 p.m. We have arranged for the following: Time: Leave 1:15 p.m. and return by 4:30 p.m.; Location: Leave from Lakewood Elementary School, (Parents, please pick up from school no later than 4:30 p.m.); Fee: Varies by trip (see below); Regis- tration: Varies by trip (see below); Min/Max: 20/45. FAMILY Wii BOWLING TOURNAMENT Let the fun begin! Join together with family mem- bers to take on other families to see who is the best at Wii bowling. This game of motion-sensing capabilities is a great way for the whole family to enjoy a social gath- ering and be competitive too! There will be three sepa- rate divisions: Adult/Child, Family (4) or Siblings (2). Date: Jan. 17; Time: 6-8 p.m.; Location: Norwalk Easter Public Library; Cost: $2 per person. BASKETBALL OPEN GYM Shoot hoops or play a pick up game with friends or family. Bring clean tennis shoes for the floor. Only resi- dents in the Norwalk school district are eligible to par- ticipate. No registration required, just show up and play. Time: 3-5 p.m.; Location: Oviatt gym; Cost: Adult-S1, Youth-$.50; Days: Sundays; Dates: Jan. 10,17, 24, 31 and Feb. 14, 21, 28. N_CONTEST *Friends and Family Seventh Annual Snowman Con- test* This contest will run December 1 through the end of March. Points will be awarded for creativity and origi- nality. Prizes will be awarded to the top place finisher per division. Take a picture of your snowman with its creators and send it to the Parks and Recreation office. Be sure to include names, ages and phone numbers of the participants. The first name listed will receive no- tice of any winnings. O_PA_LS (Older People with Active Life Styles) WELL SEASONED POTLUCK (The meat as well as the people) All are invited, age 55 or older, to attend a potluck dinner to enjoy and socialize with the Parks and Recre- ation Staff. A rural Norwalk man reported harassing phone calls and text messages; remains under investiga- tion. December 17 Craig Cable, rural Indianola, reported unau- thorized use of credit card for purchases in amount of $165: Officers assisted Marion County and Carlisle with apprehen- sion of James Fitch, 28, Knoxville, who allegedly stole a vehicle in Knox- ville. The chase went through Carlisle and ended when sheriff's deputies deployed stop sticks in the area of Hwys 5 and 28. He was turned over to Marion County. Charges are pending. Hannah Henry, Indianola, reported her vehicle entered while parked on a road just out- side of Indianola; $135 worth of merchandise and currency taken. December 23 Officers investigated a report of an assault south of Martensdale; Donald Marsh, 51, rural St. Charles, was charged with assault in connection with the incident. 12ecemb Kenneth Croat, rural St. Marys, reported theft of a check; investigation is con- tinuing. A rural Indianola man reported receiving threat- ening texts; remains under investigation. Officers conducting a traffic stop in Indianola charged John Torres, 34, Indianola, with OWI. December 2 Sandra Jacinto, Greenfield Plaza, reported an assault at her residence and damage to her vehicle; no dollar amount given. A 16-year-old Greenfield Plaza youth was referred to juvenile court in connec- tion with the incident.
