Th, r,day, January 10, 2019 N/Warren 3bwn and County News Page Nine Eight Steps of Gratitude that Will Change Your Life By Carol Tuttle You can't force change. You need to allow it. And a key to allowing is accountability. When we take accountability for every aspect of our life we are in the most powerful position to allow change to occur. Implementing these eight steps of gratitude will help you create remarkable change for good in your life! 1. Appreciate everything. Ever. ,hat which you judge as bad, wrong, and painful. 2. Express gratitude for every single moment of your life. The more you create feelings of appreciation and gratitude, the more you will attract into your life which you can appreciate and for which you can feel gratitude. 3. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrations in which we can be. Look for things for which you can be grateful. Play the Grateful Game. By yourself or with others, take turns saying what you are grateful for. 4. Start a Gratitude Journal. Every Thanksgiving, as a family, we get out our Gratitude Journal and write 1,000 things for which we are grateful. We number from one to 1,000, leave it on the kitchen counter with a pen, and family members and friends are invited to write in it as often as they would like. It usually takes us between a week and ten days to get to 1,000. 5. If you pray, thank God for believing in you, for giving you the agency to create your life, and for remembering your truth. 6. Thank all the people who have shown up in your life to play their parts for you. 7. Write a thank you note once a week to someone to express your appreciation for them. 8. Most importantly, appreciate yourself for what you are remembering and for the joys you are creating. These simple steps of gratitude address the core issues that most people struggle with at a deeper level of their being. Putting a daily focus on these moments of thanks will shift your core vibration which allows greater shifts in your life. Practical Farmers' 2019 Annual Conference Registration is now open for Practical Farmers of Iowa's 2019 annual conference, "Cultivating Connections", which will take place January 17th-19th at the Iowa State Center Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus in Ames. This year's theme draws attention to the many connections, both large and small, that are vital for farms, communities, rural economies, and natural ecosystems to thrive - from individuals connecting to share knowledge to the microscopic links between plants and soil organisms that have visible effects on crop and landscape health. Attendees will hear practical insights from their farming peers and other experts about everything from using cover crops to control weeds in field crops to niche pork production, biodynamic farming to profitably marketing meat, growing winter small grains to farm transition, eggplant production to adding prairie habitat, cultivating civility to organic dairying, rural mental health to regenerative grazing - and much more. The conference attracted over 1,000 farmers, researchers, and supporters last year. Walk-in registration is allowed, but those who pre-register by January 10th will receive a discount. Special rates are also available for students and PFI members. Register online at https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=37d463 or contact Debra Boekholder at debra@practicalfarmers.org or 515-232-5661. All are welcome. Full details are online at https://practicalfarmers.org/events/ annual-conference/. OFFICIAL PUBLICATION Notice of Sheriff's Levy and Sale wANm. couNTY SH=. Fs OFRCS . No. [E .OCy0 4 NOTICE OF LEVY Iowa Records First Flu-Related Death of the Season The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced the first flu- related death of the 2018-2019 influenza season, a middle-aged (41-60 years of age) Eastern Iowa man, who had underlying conditions or contributing factors. IDPH medical director, Dr. Caitlin Pedati, says this death is an indication that flu can be a serious illness. "This death is an unfortunate reminder the flu virus does have the potential to cause severe illness and death, especially in the very young, very old. or those who have underlying health conditions." After ten weeks of low influenz activity in Iowa, flu activity has increased over the last three weeks and influenza has been reported in every region of the state. The CDC recommends that essentially everyone over six months of age should receive the flu vaccine. It takes up to two weeks after vaccination for the body to achieve full benefit against the flu virus. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by viruses. The flu comes on suddenly and symptoms may include fever, headache, tiredness, cough, sore throat, nasal , congestion, and body aches. Illness typically lasts two to seven days and often iputs healthy people in bed for days. The "stomach bug" which causes diarrhea and vomiting is not caused by the influenza virus but usually by norovirus; thus, the flu vaccine will not protect you against this illness. To learn more about influenza in Iowa, visit http:flidph.iowa.govlinfluenza. Contact your health care provider or local health department to find out where the vaccine is available in your community or use the Flu Vaccine Finder at https://vaccinefinder.org.
