NORWALK WRESTLING
Continued from p.8
by pins were Kyle Coates,
Haskin, Rudolf, Wagner
and Thompson. Lawson
defeated Peter Stewart by
decision.
Norwalk was pleased
to compete with larger
schools to better prepare
the wrestlers for the tour-
nament trail in February
which is filled with larger
school caliber and stiff
competition. The coaches
and athletes ask commu-
nity members and fans to
check the school calendar
or website for the upcom-
ing meets.
Norwalk Wrestlers
Host Pella
Wrestling fans packed
the gym Thursday, Jan. 8,
when the Norwalk grap-
plers played host to the
Dutch from Pella. Norwalk
recorded several tallies in
the win column in the jun-
ior varsity matches. The
varsity results mimicked
the junior varsity start as
the Warriors defeated
Pella 66-15.
The varsity competi-
tion started in the 171-
pound weight class where
Cory Ogle wrestled rated
A.J. Arrendall in a tough
battle. Ogle took him to the
3rd period and lost 10-4 by
decision in a match that
was much closer than the
score indicated. Ethan
Wagner, Shay Huffman
and Tyler Thompson all
recorded first period pins
against their opponents.
Freshman Nick Eginoire
won by a forfeit in the
103-pound weight class.
Andy Lawson, Zach
Cowie, Kyle Coates and
Justin Arey all pinned
their opponents. Nor-
walk's freshman John
Cortez lost by fall to jun-
ior Brent Smith at 135
pounds. Corbin Haskin,
Josh Rudolf and Zach
Elliott added six points
each to the Norwalk score
with their pins. Junior
Blair Cooper got caught in
a quick takedown and was
defeated by senior Austin
DeJong.
Norwalk's final home
meet will be Thursday,
Jan. 22 where they will
host the Trojans from
South Tama and bid fare-
well and thank you to the
seniors and their parents.
Norwalk Wrestlers Win
1st Place at Grinnell
Duals
Saturday, Jan. 10, the
Norwalk wrestlers
headed East to Grinnell on
icy Interstate 80 to com-
pete in the Grinnell Duals
against Grinnell,
Eddyville-Blakesburg,
Marshalltown, Knoxville
and Saydel. Norwalk
went 5-0 on the day de-
fearing last year's Cham-
pions, the Marshalltown
Bobcats, 39-32 to secure
the 1st place trophy.
The day started with
Norwalk facing Grinnell.
The Warriors beat the Ti-
gers from Grinnell 48-34.
