Brenda Jo Hovey, the daughter of Wayne Hamaker and Peggy Marie (Miller) Clark, was born March 7th, 1966 in Des Moines, Iowa. Brenda grew up on a farm just north of Norwalk in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1984. At Lincoln,.Brenda played the violin with the orchestra and the trombone with the band, one year traveling to Hawaii with the marching hand. She attended two years at Iowa State and two years at Drake University graduating with a degree in Journalism and Communications. Brenda met her future husband, Jeff Hovey, while working at Allied Insurance in 1990. They were married on October 17th, 1992 at the Fort Des. Moines United Methodist Church. Together they had three children; identical twin boys, Ryan and Justin; and a daughter, Marit. Brenda continued to work until their sons were born. Following this she worked mostly at home with part-time jobs including mediation and in-home daycare. For the last 13 years Brenda worked as the business manager for the Norwalk Superstars dance studio. Brenda enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, canning tomatoes and making pickles. She also raised chickens; selling their eggs to close friends and family. Brenda loved her family, especially her parents; brother, Timothy; her “surrogate mother”, Aunt Sheryl; husband and kids. Brenda was very supportive of the kids’ activities including dance, band and twirling. Brenda lived 52 years and 10 months. Brenda was preceded in death by grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Jeff, and their three children, Ryan, Justin and Marit, all of Norwalk; her parents, Wayne and Peggy Clark of New Virginia; a brother Tim (Penny) Clark and their son, Austin of New Virginia; Jeff’s parents, Ron and Karon Hovey of Cresco; and his siblings, Melissa Foley, Pam Perry, and Greg Hovey. A celebration of life service was held on Friday, January 11th at O’Leary Funeral Ser- vices in Norwalk. Burial was in the Webb Cemetery, rural Nor-walk. Available at N/Warren Town 8: County News office Tuesday-Friday 9a.m. to 1p.m. Gerald Kirk of Tacoma, Washington, died Mon- day, December 10th, 2018. Gerald moved to the state of Washington from the Churchville, Iowa area with his family in 1952. Gerald (Jerry) Patrick Kirk was born June 8th, 1989, to Joe and Agnes (Weil), in Des Moines, Iowa. Jerry was raised on the south side of Des Moines and attended Catholic Schools before transferring to Lincoln High School for his final two years of high school: In the 1950s his parents owned a photo booth and would travel around the state taking pictures of fairgoers throughout the summer and early fall. He had fond memories of those days, though the hours were long and there were many days spent on the road. Many of his extended family members were farmers in the .Norwalk and Cumming areas, and he spent many summer days as well on the family farms. After high school, Jerry left Des Moines and hitchhiked to California and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served for three years, first taking basic training in Bakersfield and finishing his enlistment in Okinawa. After his enlistment ended, Jerry enrolled at Riverside Junior College. A standout football player in high school, Jerry played two years at Riverside and then was recruited to Washington State University in Pullman, WA for hisfinal two years of eligibility. Jerry remained a devoted Cougar alum his entire life and was a passionate WSU football season ticket holder. While at WSU he met Janice Sessler and they were married soon after they both graduated in 1964. They were married for nearly years. After a short stint in Chicago, Jerry and Janice moved to the Tacoma area where Jan was from originally. He taught for a year at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma and then took a job as a teacher/coach at Kentridge High School in the Kent School District when it opened in 1968. Jerry taught PE and health and coached, football and wrestling. With Jerry as an assistant coach, Kentridge won the first football state title in Washington history in 1973. He was the head wrestling coach at ' Kentridge for 17 years and he retired from teaching at Kentridge in 1994. Jerry was an avid sailor, owning his boat, Moonwine, for nearly 30 years. He founded the Windseekers racing club at Tyee Marina in Tacoma in the mid- 19705 , and remained active in the group until he sold his boat in the early 2000s.- In his later years, Jerry was an avid reader, traveler and golfer. He was a political junkie and could often be found yelling at the TV while watching CSPAN as members of Congress debated an obscure bill. Jerry passed away on December 10th, 2018 after suffering from dementia for many years. He lived 79 years, 6 months, and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Agnes Kirk; brothers, Eugene and Richard; and sisters, ‘Marlene and Ann. Jerry is survived by his wife, Janice Kirk (Sessler); son, Kelly Kirk (wife Andrea McNeely); daughter, Shannon Kirk; and granddaughters, Rowan and Eavan Kirk A graveside service was held Monday, January 7th at Calvary Cemetery in Churchville, Iowa. June is survived by her children, Shelia (Doug) Clement, Jeff (Janet), Danny (Alicia), Tim (Mona), and Jay (Bernie); a son-in-law, Mike Pagel; a sister, Alice Allyn; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Golda Terry; daughter, Karolyn Pagel; daughter-in-law, Lisa Berry; brothers, Ivan, Andy, and Fred; and sisters, LenoraandMildred.
