Legislature Convenes
The 2019 legislative session convened on Monday,
January 14. The session always beginson the second
Mondaylof January. The first order of business is for
the Senators who were elected last November to take
their oath of Office. Governor Reynolds \gives her
State of the State address on Tuesday morning, to a
joint session of the Senate and House in the House
Chamber. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
gives his State of the Judiciary address to another
joint session on Wednesday morning. The Condition
of the National Guard address will be given to a joint
session Thursday morning.
There are committee meetings on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. I have Human
Resources and Judiciary on Tuesday. On Wednesday
is Local Government and Appropriations, and on
Thursday is the Justice Systems Budget
Subcommittee that I will be co—chairing, with a co-
chairman from the House. All budget subcommittees
are joint Senate and House subcommittees.
The Governor’s budget recommendations will be
given to us in January. Bills will be introduced and
sub-committees will be appointed for each bill. I am
usually assigned a large number of bills to floor
manage which I am happy to do.
As always please feel free to contact me with your
ideas or concerns.
