January 8 9000 block of Carpenter Street, Lee Randall, Nor- walk, reported a burglary at her residence in rural Warren County. Jewelry stolen, $675 loss; investiga- tion continues. january_ 12 300 block of Greenfield Parkway., Tiffany Olson and Austin Palladino, Greenfield Plaza, reported D,. theft of license plate from vehicle. January 14 8000 block of Ridgev- Jew Drive, Tamette Gesu- aldo, Des Moines, report- ed that someone had tam- pered with her motor ve- hicle. ACCIDENTS December 31 - 4:02 p.m.: Kaitlyn Lagrange, 17, Winterset, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 92. Benjamin Peterson, Indi- =" anola, was crossing Hwy 92 from driveway to drive- way headingsouth. Lagrange stated that she saw the ATV cross the road going north seconds earli- er and then it came back across the road right in front of her. Per Lagrange and the witnesses at the scene, Lagrange had no time to stop or swerve to avoid collision. Peterson was flown by Mercy One to Blank Hospital. Iowa State Patrol marked the scene and took measure- ments in the event that a technical investigation is required. January 9 - 6:33 p.m.: Jacqueline Logue, 34, Run- nells, struck a whitetail deer while northbound on Hwy 65 north of Liberty Center. Deer was not locat- ed. Logue was towed by Tomin Towing-Private. January 10 - 9:32 a.m.: Nicole Duff-y, 21, Indiano- la, stated her vehicle went "v#.. onto the right shoulder. She lost control when com- ing back onto the road, spun around and entered the left ditch going through a fence and hitting a couple steel posts. The right rear tire was ripped off. January 15 -5:56 a.m.: Tammy Barry, 40, Milo, struck a deer causing heavy front end damage. Vehicle not drivable; no injuries. January 16 - 4 p.m.: Robert Wessling, 52, Nor- walk, slowed almost to a stop due to vehicles in front of him and low visi- bility due to high winds and blowing snow. The roadway was covered in snow and ice. Cynthia Berkshire, 63, Norwalk, didn't see Wessling slow down due to the blowing snow. When she tried to stop, she slid into the back right of Wessling's vehicle ,.> causing damage to her left front and left quarter. Wessli'ng's vehicle had damage to right rear; no injuries reported. January 16 - 4-33 p.m.: Darci Edginton, 29, Milo, was southbound on Hwy 65/69 in the 2700 block. Connie Whistler, 55, Indi- anola, was also south- bound. Whistler couldn't get stopped due to icy/ snow road conditions and ran into the back of Edg- inton's vehicle. January 16 - 4:44 p.m.: John Robinson, 67, Rich- field, MN, was routed off of 1-35 at G14 Hwy due to an accident. Robinson at- tempted to turn around at N 40th Street and G14 and slid sideways due to the road conditions. While at- tempting to get himself facing the correct direc- tion, Bradley Johnson, 49, Indianola, driving a semi tractor trailer, was unable to avoid hitting Robinson, who was stuck in the mid- dle of the roadway. Minor damage was sustained by both vehicles. January 17 - 8:09 a.m.: Unknown vehicle was stuck in the median with no one around. Sean Th- ompson, 46, Indianola, was northbound on Hwy 65/69 and lost control go- ing up a hill. Thompson entered the median back- wards striking the right rear of unknown vehicle with the right rear of Th- ompson's vehicle. Deadline for ads, legals and stories is Noon Friday! January_ 16 Officer was called to the 100 block of Masteller Road for a report of Crimi- nal Mischief. Information was taken and a report was made. January 17 Officer was contacted about a possible Fraud case. Information was taken and a report was made. The incident re- mains under investigation at this time. January 21 Called to the intersec- tion of North Avenue and E. 17th Street for a prop- erty damage accident. A vehicle driven by Mallory Pech, Carlisle, lost control due to icy road conditions and struck a stop sign post. A report was made and forwarded to the Iowa De- partment of Transporta- tion. January 22 Called to the 2500 block of Sunset Drive for a Hit and Run accident. Infor- mation was collected and an investigation was made. Case closed pend- ing further leads. Report was forwarded to the Iowa Department of Transporta- tion. Took a report of a tele- phone scam. Information was taken and a report was A mule won't sink in quick- sand but a donkey will. OFFICIAL PUBLICATION NORWALK COMMUNITY SCHOOLS Regular Session January 13, 2014 The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Directom Present-George Meinecke, Rick Kaul, Justin Fletcher, Madbeth Wright, and Katherine Schmidt. The following motions were made, seconded, and approved: Approved the Consent Agenda. Approved Norwalk District's participation in Hyperstream, a program held outside regular class time whereby students learn about technology careers. Approved using $3,300 of Sales Tax Funds for audio/visual equipment that has been installed in both team rooms at the stadium building. The majority of the cost ($5.958.42) was paid for by the Activity Fund. Approved the Touring School Contract with Opera Iowa for performances at Lakewoed and Oviatt and workshops to be held at Lakewood on April 14, 2014. Approved application to the Iowa Department of Education for an Early Lit- eracy Implementation Grant in the amount of $32,004.49.
