BABYSITTING BASICS TRAINING COURSE This class is open for all youth (boys an girls) grades five and up. Babysitting Basics will teach you to become a first-rate babysitter. Bring to class the first day a toy of thestudent's choice and a baby doll if they have one. This class will teach you: Basic first aid and rescue breathing, caring for infants and young children, safety and how to handle emergencies, responsibilities of a baby sitter, what parents expect of you, age appropriate toys and activities. Upon completion of all activities, you will receive a Babysitting Basics Certificate. Registration Dates: Through February 8; Program Dates: Thursday and Fri- day, Feb. 21 and 22; Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Location: Norwalk Public Safety Bldg; Instructor; ISU Extension Warren County; Cost: $20 for Norwalk residents and $25 for non-residents; Minimum/Maximum: 10/25. EARLY OUT WEDNESDAYS Back by popular demand! Again this year we will offer afternoon early out field trips to various attrac- tions in and around the metro area. The trips are held on the early out Wednesday of the month (October-Feb- ruary) These "early out" trips are for kids in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Our staff will have an activity for the kids from 12-1 p.m. and then we will board the bus. Important: Snacks are included in this year's activities if specified below, if not extra money will be required if your child wants a snack. Time: Leave 1 p.m. and re- turn by 4:30 p.m.; Location: Leave from Lakewood El- ementary School (Parents, pick student up from school no later than 4:30 p.m.); Fee: Varies by trip (see below); Registration: Varies by trip (see below); Minimum/ Maximum: 20/45. February 6 Ice Skating at Metro Ice: Enjoy an after- noon of ice-skating at the Metro Ice Sports Facility. Be sure you bring plenty of warm clothes (mittens, hats) and long socks. Concession stand will be available. Reg- istration Dates: Through January 18; Cost: $10 Norwalk residents/S11.50 non-residents. NORWALK FAMILY TAE KWON DO Michael Wagenknecht is the head instructor of the school and offers programs for ages five through adults. The classes are separated by rank (beginners and ad- vanced) and students meet twice a week. Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the Oviatt gym or multi- purpose room, Beginners meet from 6-6:30 p.m. and advanced students meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Times can vary.) We also offer a Little Dragon program designed for children ages five to seven. Little Dragons meet twice a week. This program is run concurrently with the begin- ning class. All programs consist of hand and foot tech- niques, forms, self-defense, lessons and instructions on topics such as respect, self-discipline and perseverance. Competition is also available for those students who are interested. Competition teaches sportsmanshi 7, I Call 911 for --emergencies! gives confidence and allows the students to use the skills they have learned in class. Families are strongly encouraged to join and train together. We found that the kids learn better when one or both of their parents/guardians are learning along- side of them in class. Cost per session: (1st family mem- ber): Norwalk residents, $57.50; Non-residents, $66.25; 2nd and 3rd Family Member: Norwalk residents, $28.75 Non-residents, $33.25 each, Maximum Family Fee: Norwalk residents, $115, Non-residents, $132.50; Cost of testing for belts and competition is extra. Anyone .,t registering for Tae Kwon Do after the registration deadline has passed will be required to pay a $15 late fee in addition to the cost of the program. SPRING SOCCER 2013 JUST FOR KICKS This beginning soccer program is for children at least four years old that are not currently in 'kindergarten this school year. Participants will be introduced to the sport of soccer and will be taught the basic fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting. Shin guards are re- quired for this program. This is a six-week program in- cluding one Week of practice and five weeks of games. Registration: Through February 8; Dates: Starts week of March 25, weather permitting; Time: 6 p.m.; Days: Monday or Wednesday; Location: Norwalk-McAninch Sports Complex; Cost: Norwalk residents $28.75 or non- residents $33.25. KINDERGARTEN SOCCER This program is for both boys and girls currently in kindergarten this school year. Shin guards are required. This is a six-week program including two weeks of prac- tices and four weeks of games. Registration: Through February 8; Days: Starts week of March 25, weather permitting; Time: 6 p.m.; Location: Norwalk-McAninch Sports Complex; Days: Tuesday/Thursday; Cost: Norwalk residents $34.50, non-residents $39.75. 1ST-7TH GRADE SOCCER This program is for children in 1st through 7th grade this current school year. Shin guards are required. This is a six-week program including two weeks of practice and four weeks of games. Divisions: 1st & 2nd Grade Boys - 4 vs. 4 play on Monday and Thursday; 1st & 2nd Grade Girls - 4 vs. 4 play on Tuesday and Friday; 3rd & 4th Grade Coed - 8 vs. 8 play on Monday and Thurs- day; 5th - 7th Grade Coed - 8 vs. 8 play on Tuesday and Friday. Registration: Through February 8; Days: Starts week of March 25, weather permitting; Times: 6 p.m.; Location: Norwalk-McAninch Sports Complex; Cost:. Norwalk residents $46 or non-residents $53. OPALS- SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMS (Older People with Active Life Styles) SENIOR CITIZEN EXERCISE Everyone ages 55 and older is invited to attend a free exercise program that will include stretching and ton- ing. We will meet at the Norwalk Christian Church lo- cated at 701 Main St. This program will run until the end of May.
