Norwalk Show Choir Named Grand Champions at Dallas Center-Grimes
Saturday, Jan. 22, the
Norwalk High School
show choir, Sound Revo-
lution, competed at the
Dallas Center-Grimes
"Take Two" Show Choir
Invitational with six other
3A schools and seven 1A/
2A schools. Norwalk
Middle School show choir,
Sound Sensation, also
competed in the Middle
School Division.
At DC-G "Take Two",
schools first competed
within class size (3A, 2A/
1A, Prep, MS) and high
school groups are
awarded distinctions of
Best Vocals, Best Choreog-
raphy, Best Band (the back-
up combo) and
Oustanding Male/Female
Soloist. Norwalk Sound
Sensation was awarded 4 th
Place in the Middle School
Division. Norwalk Sound
Revolution was awarded
1 t Place in class 3A with
awards of Best Vocals and
Outstanding Male Soloist,
Junior Nick Friesen, for his
solo in "Renegade."
The top two schools
from each class size were
selected to go to the
evening finals, in which
schools compete in open
class for the title of "Grand

lected for the finals in-
cluded: West Branch High
School Show Choir,
Emmetsburg High Voltage
(former champions at DC-
G), Pella Dutch Divas
(Prep division), Pella
AcaPella (former champi-
ons at DC-G) and Norwalk
Sound Revolution.
For the finals, an addi-
tional judge is added to the
group in order to encour-
age fairness to the evening
scores. As they listed off
the groups starting at 4 th
Runner-Up, the Norwalk
section got more and more
excited. When they an-
nounced Pella AcaPella as
2 nd Runner-Up and
Emmetsburg High Voltage
as 1 st Runner-Up, the
Norwalk section erupted
in applause when they re-
alized that they had been
awarded I st Place.
After conferring with
several informed commu-
nity members, it was dis-
covered that this group
had done something
monumental. This was the
first time in Norwalk
Show Choir history that
the group had been named
Grand Champions for any
competition.
