Iowa for 2018
The National Council
for Home Safety and
Security has named
Norwalk as Number I on
the list of Safest Cities in
Iowa for 2018. According
to the report, Iowa's
safest community is the
city of Norwalk (listed as
population 10,371) with
only 16 violent crimes
and 87 property crimes
logged in the latest year
for which data is

The Norwalk Free
Medical Clinic, located at
Crossroads Church, is
open the 1st and 3rd
Thursdays of each
month, and everyone is
welcome. No
appointments are
necessary.
Crossroads Church is
located at 2601 Border
Street in Norwalk. On
linic nights, patient
registration begins 5:45
p.m and patients are
seen beginning at 6:00
p.m. The last patient
registration is at 7:30
p.m and the clinic closes
8:00 p.m. Services
include: acute illness/
minor injury exams, well
child exams, (no
vaccines), lead testing,
school/sports physicals,
employment physicals,
adult tetanus shots,
chiropractic, patient
assistance program
enrollment, blood
pressure checks, and
diabetes blood glucose
testing.

Norwalk Preschools Offer
Early Childhood Fair
Norwalk preschool programs have made it easy for
parents to find current information about their
schools, all in one place. On Saturday, February 10th,
from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m an Early Childhood Fair
will take place at Oviatt Elementary School, 713
School Avenue in Norwalk. During the fair, parents
may meet with the preschool programs in Norwalk,
gather information, and ask questions of school
representatives, all in an open house format.
Preschools represented at the fair will be Carol's
Preschool, Crayons2Pencils Preschool, Crossroads
Kids Preschool, Lir Hands Big Dreams Preschool,
Main Street Montessori Preschool, Oviatt
Elementary Preschool, Serendipity Preschool, and
Stepping Stones Preschool.
To attend the fair, please enter Oviatt Elementary
on the east side. Children are welcome to attend, but
it is not required that you bring your child with you.
Norwalk 6th and 7th graders recently participated in an event called Project
PJs, sponsored by Joppa. Joppa is an organization in the Des Moines area that
visits the homeless each week and provides essential needs. Joppa collaborates
with other agencies, helps people access resources, and develops unique programs
that fill gaps and meets unmet needs in outreach, housing and education.
Students participated in the program by wearing pajamas for the day, and raising
$175 for the organization.
New Sobriety Group for Norwalk Area
Norwalk LIFE Sobriety is filling a need to promote and support sobriety in the
Norwalk area community. There is an undeniable increased use of narcotics in
the world we live in. No matter what the reason behind past use of narcotics,
Norwalk LIFE Sobriety wants to provide a support group for our neighbors,
friends, and families in the community. This support group is grounded in the
Narcotics Anonymous Traditions and Steps. We want to offer an accessible
meeting place and time for the community to continue to grow and celebrate
sobriety and freedom from narcotics.
Norwalk LIFE Sobriety meeting times going forward are Wednesdays and
Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Norwalk Easter Public Library.
Wednesday, February 14th and Friday, February 16th will be our next gatherings;
please join us. Our meetings will be a shared support time for Alcoholics
Anonymous, and are open to adults, teens, and families.

Rhyme Time, 10:30 am. A movement-focused
storytime, with songs, rhymes, and short books. 25
minutes followed by playtime.
Pajama Time, 7:00 pro. Join us in the evenings
on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month to read
funny stories. Great for all ages; pajamas welcome!
Friday, February 9
Just For Teens: International Candy Tasting,
4:00 - 5:00 pm. 6th - 12th graders are invited to try
candies from around the world and vote on your
favorites! (No sign-up required.)
Monday, February 12
Baby Time, 10:30 am. Join us on Mondays for a
special story time for babies Up to 18 months and
their grownups. Learn lots of songs, rhymes, and
bounces!
Tuesday, February 13
Reading Time, 10:30 am. A book-focused
storytime, with books, songs, and activities. 25
minutes followed by play time.
Wednesday, February 14
Early Out Wednesday. Drop in activities every
Wednesday 2:30 - 3:30 pm if there's school in
Norwalk. On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, it's
Make! Make art projects with a variety of materials.
Thursday, February 15

No-School Day Activity, 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Play
Wii games like Mario Kart, projected on the big
screen!
Novels at Night Book Club, 7:00 pm. This book
club for adults meets the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Registration required. This month, let's talk about
books! We'll have an open discussion on recently read
books or favorites.

No-School Day Activity, 1:30 pro. Watch a movie
