Norwalk Parks and Recreation Department
Registration forms for events are available 24 hours a day at the Parks and
Recreation office (1100 Chatham Avenue, inside the Norwalk Public Safety
Building) or print them off our website: www.norwalk.iowa.gov. You can mail
registration forms, place them in our drop box, or walk in. Office hours are 8:00
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The drop box is open 24/7. If you have any
questions, please call us at 515-981-9206. On-line registration is also available
on our website: www.norwalk.iowa.gov.

Exciting Parks and Rec News
The Parks and Recreation program brochure will be coming straight to your
home via the Norwalk Living magazine - as an insert for every resident. Detailed
class information and registration will still be available online at http://

still be available in the lobby. Watch for it in March.
Creative Art Classes (early out)
Lucinda Sperry, Art Love Studio, will lead the class in various art projects.
Students at Oviatt elementary are welcome to participate but will need to find
their own transportation to Lakewood Elementary. Register for all classes at
once or one at a time.
Craft Club
Get out your glue and imaginations for this program. Children in 3rd through
5th grades at Lakewood elementary are invited to join. They meet once a month
after school on early out Wednesdays to make special arts and Crafts projects.

Mad Science of Iowa
Session C: Tuesday February 20th: Inviting all young budding scientists to
join us for our great programming involving Space Phenomena, Frozen Carbon
Dioxide (Dry Ice!), Space Technology, and Reactions in Action! One Take Home-
Make & Learn for each topic.
Session D: Tuesdays April 17th and 24th: Inviting all young budding scientists
to join us for our great programming involving Space Travel, Slime Polymers,
Sun & Stars, and Where's the Air! One Take Home-Make & Learn for each
topic.
YEL (Youth Enrichment League) Classes
Gear Engineers & Wheels & Racers: STEM Enrichment using LEGO bricks
for the 21st Century learner. Each class follows four basic components: Teach
It! Each class students are taught the basic STEM engineering concepts behind
each project. Build It! Students use LEGOs to build a motorized racers, a
conveyor and design their own winch. Explore It! They use the project built to
explore the basic engineering concepts. Play It! Finally they play with their
project, modify it, create extensions and have fun working with it. This class is
for 1st through 5th grades.
Just For Kicks
This beginning soccer program is for children at least-4-years old ttra are net--
currently in kindergarten this school year. Participants will be introduced to
the sport of soccer and will be taught the basic fundamentals of dribbling, passing
and shooting. Shin guards are required for this program. This is a six-week
program including one week of practice and five weeks of games.
Kindergarten Soccer
This program is for both boys and girls currently in kindergarten this school
year. This is a six-week program including two weeks of practices and four
weeks of games. Shin guards are required.
Youth Soccer (lst- 7th)
This program is for children in 1st through 7th grade this current school year.
Shin guards are required. This is a six-week program that includes both practice
and games. Divisions: 1st & 2nd Grade Boys - 4 vs. 4; 1st & 2nd Grade Girls - 4
v4; 3rd & 4th Grade Coed - 8 vs. 8; 5th - 7th Grade Coed - 8 vs. 8
Babysitting Clinic
Designed for students 5th grade and above, Babysitting Clinic teaches you to
become a first-rate babysitter. Babysitting is an important job. This class will
teach you basic first aid and rescue breathing; caring for infants and young
children; safety and how to handle emergencies; respons bilitie of a babysitter;
what parents expect of you; and age appropriate toys and activities. Upon
completion of all activities, you will receive a Babysitting Clinic certificate.
Senior Citizen Exercise
Everyone ages 55 and older is invited to attend a free exercise program that
will include stretching and toning. We will meet at the Norwalk Christian Church
located at 701 Main St. This is a continuous program running yearly.
Family Open Gym
Shoot hoops or play a pick,up game w th friends family. Bring clean tennis
shoes dr J;he Tl6b . Only reslclenis in the'Norwalk school cl'isii'ict are eligible to
participate. No registration required, just show up and play.
Well-Seasoned Potluck
(The meat as well as the people)
All are invited, age 55 or older, to attend a potluck dinner to enjoy and socialize
with the Park and Recreation staff. Meat, tableware, and coffee/beverage are
provided. Dust off the cookbooks and be creative to bring a side dish and]or
dessert to share with everyone. After the meal we will have some form of
entertainment from local talent. Let us know your email address and we will
send out reminders with what meat that is prepared on that day. Call or email
the office to register two days before the event.
