Des Moines Performing Arts
Announces 2018 Summer Camps
Each summer Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA)
offers young people throughout the Midwest the
opportunity to explore their interest in performing
arts. Two camp models will be offered this summer
and includes Musical Theater Camp: Heroes, Villains
and Sidekicks (six sessions) and Broadway Summer
Intensive (one session).
Registration is available online at www.DMPA.org/
education. Questions should be directed to 515-246-
2360.
Musical Theater Camp: Heroes, Villains And
Sidekicks: For grades 3 through 8. Six week-long
sessions are available from June to August, and invite
young artists to explore their talents and skills as
musical theater actors within an original musical
production. Each participant is guaranteed a role,
with roles being assigned on the first day via an
audition process. Young artists are invited to spend
their week rehearsing and participating in theater
workshops, as well as making new friends along the
way.
By Friday afternoon, the students will be ready to
take the stage with confidence. When they perform
in the original musical - complete with professional
lighting and costumes--they'll transport the audience
into the world of heroes, villains, and sidekicks! No
previous experience is necessary; all levels are
welcome.
Broadway Summer Intensive: For grades 9 through
first year of college. One session in July with
professional Broadway faculty leading teens in an
immersive week on the "triple threat" skills of
musical theater-- acting, dancing and singing.
Through daily classes, participants will sharpen their
performance skills, instill important audition
techniques, and increase their knowledge about the
Broadway industry as a whole. The week culminates
in a showcase for family and friends. While auditions
are not required, pre ous theater trai ing or theater
experience is necessary.
