Pratt, 82, of Lehigh Acres, FL. Mr. Pratt died T]:-lrsda~ Jan. 28, inDes Moines. He was born June 8, 1927 to Earnest and Edna (Hoffman) Pratt. Mr. Pratt graduated in 1944 from Hickman High School and later that year joined the United States Army. He was a graduate of the Univer- sity of Nebraska and received a Master's in Educational Leadership and taught in Verdon, NE. He married Thelma Beutler December 28, 1951 in Omaha, NE. They rsised four children - Kenneth, DeAnn, Lairy and Melvin a,:..?~ lived in Hordville, NE.where he served as princi- pal, teacher and coach. They then moved to Wall Lake, !A; where he seffved as the school principal, but re- mained a loyal Big Red fan. He worked with Vocational Rehabilitation in Sac and Calhoun counties in Iowa. They moved to Osage Beach, MO where he served on the police force, retiring in 1989. Survivors include sons, Kenneth (Rose) Pratt of Leavenworth, KS, and Melvin (Vicky) Pratt of Brumle)~ MO; daughter, DeAnn (Dale) Barnhill of Norwalk; daughter-in-law, Becky Koessel of Bentonville, AR, widow of son Lairy; grandchildren, Brandon, Christy, AdreAnne and Dalton; great-grandchildren; sister, Janis Walvoord of Hickman, NE; sister-in-law, Viola Pratt of Hickman, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma who died in 2003, and son, Lairy who died in 1978. Memorials may be made to Taylor House I-[ospice, 3401 E. Douglas, Des Moines, IA 50317. OBITUARY ALFERD LOUISE GATES A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at Mill Pond Retirement Center in Ankeny for Alferd Louise Gates, better known as Louise A. Gates, 93, of Mill Pond Retirement Center in Ankenv. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Her ashes and those of her late husband, Mark, will be interred at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Mrs. Gates died Sunda)~ Jan. 31. Mrs. Gates was born April 7, 1916 to Ruby A. and George W. Sharp at the family home in Chariton. Prior to becoming a homemaker, she packed ammunition dur- ing World War II at the Federal Ordinance Plant, now home to John Deere in Ankeny. The family was assisted by the Angels of Senior Helpers. Survivors include a son, Ivan Michael (Mick) Parsons, Polk City; daughters, Christine L. Warrington, Norwalk, and Marcia L. Burbank, Urbandale; grandchildren, Steve Parsons, Des Moines, Tammy Shattuck, Marco Island, FL, Bob Parsons, Des Moines, Ryan Roupe, Urbandale, Meredith Chamberlain, Winterset, Ryder Roupe, Uniontown, OH; 12 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark R. Gates; babyboy, Steven; grandmother, Chinesa Alferd Blakely Strider; parents; brothers, Grover Burdette (Bud), Geroge Ivan, John Mason and James Robert; and sister, Lois Lucille. OBITUARY BILLY HOLLRAH Services were held at United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista, AR, Saturday, Feb. 6, for former rural Norwalk resident, Billy Hollrah, 70, of Bella Vista. Mr. Hollrah died at his home Friday, Jan. 29, from compli- cations related to cancer. Mr. Hollrah was born March 21, 1939 in Sac County to Lewis and Helen(Bruns) Hollrah. He graduated from Amana High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to Barbara Zuber of Amana in 1959. Following the marriage the couple moved to Des Moines where he spent a few years as a carpenter in Woodward. He later became a pressman in Des Moines retiring from the trade in 1996. He was a hobby farmer for nearly 37 years on his 40-acre spread south of Norwalk until moving to Bella Vista in 2004. Mr. Hollrah was an avid woodworker, Card inals fan, golfer, bowler, card player and enjoyed fishing in Iowa farm ponds. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista, Hobo golf, Wednesday Social Bridge and Senior Bowling. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Bella Vista; four 'children, Brenda (Charlie) Hurdle, Bart Hollrah, Bonnie (Eric) Olson and Bruce Hollrah; one grandchild, Kristy Kilpatrick; and one step-grandchild, Courtney Hurdle, all of Iowa; sisters; Virginia Remsburg, Phoenix, AZ, Janet Slaymaker, Marengo, and Sandy (Robert) Fuller, Cedar Rapids; brothers, Robert (Velma Kay) Hollrah, Phoenix, AZ and Duane Hollrah, Rogers, AR; plus nieces and nephews. Mr. Hollrah was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy, and brother, Gerald Gene. Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd., Springdale, AR 72762. OBITUARY HERBERT HANSEN Services were held Friday, Feb. 5, for Herbert Hansen, 80, Marshalltown, who died Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Burial was at Cass Township Cemetery north of Webster City. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #633. Herbert Eugene Hansen was born April 8, 1929 to Holger and Florence Sharer Hansen in Radcliffe. He at- tended rural schools and graduated from Radcliffe Pub- lic School. From 1951 to 1953, he served with the U.S. Army at Camp Carson, Colorado Springs, CO. During the Korean War, he was drafted and served as a Fire Direction Leader in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hansen started farming near Williams in 1946, retiring in 1984. May 4, 1957, he married Donna Mae Jaynes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. From 1984 to 1994, he worked for the Iowa Department of Rev- enue as a mail clerk and tax specialist. The couple moved to Prairie City in 1984. He had resided at the Iowa Vet- erans Home since September of 2009. Mr. Hansen was a member of the Williams United Methodist Church and Prairie City United Methodist Church, 20-year leader of the Williams Booster 4-H Club, Township trustee, Williams American Legion Post #633, Hamilton County Extension Council and past Vice Presi- dent of the Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitchers Associa- tion. Survivors include his wife, Donna; sons, Donald (Sherry) Hansen, Prairie City, and David (Annette) Hansen, Norwalk; daughter, Debbie (Marty) DeDecker, Altoona; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur (Elaine) Hansen, Ankeny, and Kenny (Shirley) Hansen, Turin; sisters, June (Bob) Schwiebert, Webster City, Ruth (Bob) Cook, Iowa Falls, Clara (LaVerne) Bell, Woolstock; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Hansen; son, Dennis Hansen; siblings, Carl and Cora Hansen, in infancy and sister, Margaret Bahrenfuss. OBITUARY SARAH INICE BEARDSLEY RUNDIO Sarah Inice Beardsley Rundio, 95, Heber Springs, AR, died Thursday, Feb. 4, at Southridge Nursing Home in Heber Springs. The body has been cremated and a fam- ily graveside service willbe held Memorial weekend in Peru. She was born in Winterset in 1914 to Myrtie and Sa- rah Brock and had worked for several vears as an ex- ecutive housekeeper in Des Moines. Survivors include children Jim (Kim) Beardsley and Jean (Ron) Norman, both of Heber Springs, and Kay (Charles) Middleton of Norwalk; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchil- dren. OBITUARY JOSIAH G. JOHNSON Services were held at Saylorville Baptist Church Saturda)~ Feb. 6, for Josiah G. Johnson, 27, Ankeny, who died Wednesda~ Feb. 3, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery near Alleman. Survivors include his wife, Jessica; daughter, Ava; son, Lincoln; parents, Dennis and Mary of Norwalk; sisters, Aubrie, Rebeka and Bethany; grandparents, Sb irley Johnson and A1 and Elaine Adlfinger of Illinois; fa- ther-in-law and mother-in- law, Duane and Sarah Elson of Ankeny; and brothers-in-law, Jacob, Caleb, Isaac and Jonah Elson.
