As a reminder, when changes are made to schedules please refer to the Little Hawkeye Conference website and click on the Norwalk link to View all schedules and changes. Thank you to all of the volunteers, and especially the Norwalk Athletic Booster Club board members, in hosting a successful girls’ youth basketball tournament. The annual boys and girls basketball tournaments are two of three major fundraising events sponsored by the Boosters for assisting with the purchase of capital improvements of facilities as well as major equipment expenses. Bowling: The Norwalk Warriors played host to the Newton Cardinals and came up just short of coming away with a Victory. In the boys match, J unioriHolden Brown and Junior Logan Duffy both shot a 355 two game series. Brown led the Warriors in the baker games by going 9 strikes and spares out of 10 frames. Boys Results: Newton 2,575, Norwalk 2,368. The girls team also came up short in their bid for a Victory. Senior Sara Langenfeld rolled a 321 series in the first round. She also led the Warriors in the baker games by going 4 strikes and spares out of 10 frames. Girls Results: Newton 2,473, Norwalk 1,980. Boys Basketball: The Warriors’ only game was a N HS Activities By Al Lammers, Athletic Director Little Hawkeye Conference -matchup with the Newton Cardinals in which Norwalk was in total control of from the opening tip and ran away with an 80-61 victory. Three Warriors got into double figures in scoring with Jr. Bowen Born leading the way with 24 points while Jr. Tyler Johnson added 16 and Sr. Tyler Endres had 15. Born recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and just missed a triple double with eight assists. The Warriors 9-1 in conference play raised their overall record to 13-3 on the year. Post season District Tournament assignments have been released and those schools in Norwalk’ district include ADM, Boone, Clarke, Osceola, Dallas Center- Grimes, Gilbert, North Polk, Alleman, and Saydel. District brackets will be determined soon. Girls Basketball: The Warriors’ one game they were able to play was a much deserved win as they topped the Newton Cardinals for the second time this season 41 -30. Norwalk outscored the Cardinals in the second half 27-17 and showed some poise at the end of the game in making some key free throws and limiting turnovers down the stretch. Senior Gianna Bellizzi scored a game high 17 points while Jo Jo Bice added 12. Regional pairings have been released by the IGHSAU and Norwalk will travel to Knoxville to take on the Panthers in their first round game. Swimming: Congratulations to Norwalk swimmers Will Bennett, Shaun Slycord, Logan Neifert and Derek Webster for not only their great performances at the 2019 district meet but for qualifying to the 2019 state swim meet in Iowa City. Will, Shaun and Logan also swam in events that put them in the Top Five all time in school history, nice work and good luck guys! Wrestling: The Warriors used dual quad last week at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson as a warmup for their upcoming Regional Dual Tournament appearance with three dominating victories. The following were the results of those duals: Norwalk 63 Boone 18; Norwalk 47 Carroll 27; and Norwalk 65 CB TJ 12. The Warriors will travel to WDSM Valley for regional duals as they will wrestle Lewis Central in the first round with the winner to face off against Valley to determine the state dual qualifier. Large Group Speech competed in State Speech at WDSM Valley, and out of the 10 groups that qualified two'received a 1 rating while the rest all received a 2 rating.
