PETERSEN Services were held Fri- day, Feb. 12, at the Norwalk United Method- ist Church for Clara M. Petersen, 86, Norwalk, who died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Urbandale Health Care Center. Burial was at the Norwalk Cemetery. Mrs. Petersen was born July 22, 1923 in Corinth, KY, one of four children to Samuel Guy and Ethel Newton. She attended Brean College and then joined the U.S. WAVS dur- ing World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946. While in service; she met Harold L. Petersen and they were married January 11, 1947 in Kansas. Mrs. Petersen worked and retired from Preferred Risk Insurance and was active in the Norwalk United Method- ;st Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, ceramics, cooking and preserving fresh produce from her husband's garden, but mostly her family and helping others. Survivors include her children, Susan Smith, David (Kathy) Petersen and Rita Windle, all of Norwalk; six grandchil- dren; eight great-grand- children; brother, G. Sam (Dorothy) Newton; brother-in-law, Chris (Jo) Petersen; nieces and neph- ews. She was preceded in death by her parents; hus- band; sister, Polly, and brother, Tommy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. OBITUARY HAROLD R. MEYER Services and burial were held in Des Moines Thursday, Feb. 11, for Harold R. Meyer, 61, Norwalk, who died at his home Saturday, Feb. 6. Survivors include his wife, Janet; children, Vickie, Gary and Shannon Meyer; sister, Kathy; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. OBITUARY EVELYN CLIFT SERRILL Services were held Monday, Feb. 8, at St. An- drew Presbyterian Church in Des Moines for Evelyn Clift Serrill, 90, of Iowa City, formerly of Des Moines. Mrs. Serrill died Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Serrill was born June 18, 1919 in Holly Springs, the daughter of Charles and Emily Lockwood Clift. She mar- ried Julian B. Serrill in Sioux City Aug. 3, 1940. She was a longtime resi- dent of Des Moines and was a charter member of the Wakonda Christian Church and worked many years as an executive sec- retary for the Meredith Corporation. In 2008, she moved to Oaknoll Retire- ment Residence in Iowa City. Survivors include three daughters, Julie (Larry) Pedersen, Indianola, Kathryn (Pete) Wallace, Iowa City, and Linda (Jim) Ely Omaha, NE; six grand- children, Bonnie (Rob) Baldus, Norwalk, Scot (Kim) Pedersen of West Des Moines, Rebecca (Ja- son) Schuchert, Coralville, Rachel (Carlos) Tellez, Sil- ver Spring, MD, Mark Ely, Boston, MA and Greg Ely, Omaha, NE, ten great- grandchildren; her sister, Annabel Greseth of Dawson, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five siblings.
