4-H Youth Learn to Sew
A total of 14 youth from around the county joined together February 16 to sew a St.
Patrick's Day gift bag and hand-sew a button on fabric. 4-H'ers began by starching
and ironing their fabric. Then Nancy DeLay and Justin DeLay (4-H'er) talked to
them about the different equipment used in sewing and demonstrated how to use
a rotary cutter. The youth then got hands-on experience on the machines by sewing
their gift bags. Many 4-H'ers commented that they loved being able to sew on the
machines[ One 4-H'er stated that she received a sewing machine for Christmas,
but had never used it. She now felt that she could go home and try it out. Another
4-H'er was heard telling her mom, "I'm going to go home and sew pillowcases by
myself tonight!" It was great to see ideas flying and motivation sparked at Monday's
workshop. Pictured, left to right: Gabby McCoy, Selena Cooper, Brooklyn Cross,
