Thursday, March 7, 2019 N/Warren Town and County News Page Three Warren County Senior Meal Program Seeks More Participants The Warren County Senior Meal Program would like to reach out to senior citizens over the age of 60 who are home bound and are in need of a home- delivered meal. All meals are cooked fresh daily at the meal site in Martensdale. There are no income guidelines to participate in the program. Please call 641-764-2736 with any questions you have, or to get signed up for a lunch time meal. Norwalk Christian Church has Moved Temporarily Exciting changes are in the works for Norwalk Chrfstian Church. Construction began Monday, February 11th on the approved renovation project. During renovations we will worship on Sundays at O'Leary's Celebration of Life Center, with children and adult Sunday school at 9:00 a.m. and worship at 10:00 a.m. O'Leary's is located at 1020 Main Street, Norwalk. SHIIP Offers Welcome to Medicare Seminar Warren County Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteers are having a Welcome to Medicare Seminar on Tuesday, March 19th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Indianola Activity Center (2204 West 2nd Avenue). The free seminar covers all Medicare parts (A through D). Register by calling 515-962- 5375. SHIIP provides assistance with understanding Medicare so people make informed decisions. SHIIP services are free, unbiased, and confidential. Linn Grove Church Supper The Linn Grove United Methodist Church, 7483 50th Avenue in Prole, will host a Community Supper on Thursday, March 14th, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Meatloaf, salads, and desserts will be served. Please bring clean tennis shoes to wear for the games. This program is only for residents who live within the Norwalk School District. Babysitting Clinic This class is open for all youth (boys & girls) 5th grade and up. Babysitting is an important job. The Babysitting Clinic will teach you to become a first- rate babysitter. This class will meet on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for 2.5 hours each day during Norwalk Schools Spring Break. This class teaches you: Basic first aid and rescue breathing; Caring for infants and young children; Safety and how to handle emergencies; Responsibilities of a babysitter; What parents expect of you; and Age- appropriate toys and activities. Upon completion of all activities you will receive a Babysitting Clinic Certificate. Minor Baseball and Softball (3rd-5th grades) This program is for children who are currently in 3rd-5th grades. Girls will play softball and boys will play baseball. The children will have fun while learning fundamentals of baseball or softball. Volunteer coaches will be needed. There will be two weeks of practices and four weeks of games (dependent on number of teams). Softball will be on Monday/Wednesday nights, and baseball will be on Tuesday/Thursday nights. A glove is needed for this program. Coach Pitch Baseball and Softball (lst-2nd grades) This program is for children who are currently in lst-2nd grades. Girls will play softball and boys will play baseball. The children will have fun while learning fundamentals of baseball or softball. Volunteer coaches will be needed. Coaches will pitch to the batters. IF the batter does not get a hit, the ball will then be placed on a tee. There will be two weeks of practices and four weeks of games (dependent on number of teams). Softball will be on Monday/Wednesday nights, and baseball will be on Tuesday/Thursday nights. A glove is needed for this program. Norwalk Family TaeKwonDo Jason Brooks is the head instructor of Norwalk Family TaeKwonDo, which offers programs for ages 5 through adults. The classes are separated by rank and students meet twice a week. Adult Fitness Classes Fitness classes include Circuit Sensation/Bootcamp Sensation, Early Bird Body Sculpting, and Step Bench Aerobics/Interval. Mary Jane Sharp is the instructor. OPALS - Older People wi, th Active Life Styles Senior Citizen-E~e~ci~6~ Everyone ages 55 and older is invited to attend a free exercise program that will include stretching and toning. We will meet at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church (new location) located at 515 Sunset Drive. Registration is not required. This is a continuous program every Monday and Wednesday from 10-10:30 a.m. OPALS Well-Seasoned Potluck (The meat as well as the people) All are invited, age 55 or older, to attend a potluck dinner to enjoy and socialize with the Park and Recreation staff. Meat, tableware, and coffee/ beverage are provided. Dust off the cookbooks and be creative to bring a side dish and/or dessert to share with everyone. After the meal we will have some form of entertainment from local talent. Let us know your email address and we will send out reminders with what meat that is prepared on that day.
