This bro- chure has all of the programs offered by the Parks and Recreation department for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Activity descriptions, dates, and prices are included for each program in the brochure. Hard copies of this may be picked up locally approxi- mately the second week of March at the Norwalk Pub- lic Safety Building, as well as other supporting busi- nesses such as City Hall City Chambers office, City Li- brary, Farewa and local banks. Watch for more infor- mation when the brochures arrive. Children in 3rd through 5th grades at Lakewood El- ementary are invited to join. They meet once a month after school on early out Wednesdays to make special arts and crafts projects. Instructor: Nancy Kuehl. Reg- istration: Through March 3; Time: 1:30 to 4:15 p.m.; Dates: March 22; Location: Lakewood Art room; Cost per class: $15 Norwalk residents, $17.25 non-residents; Minimum/maximum: 6/24. NORWALK FAMILY TAE KWON DO This program offers classes for ages 5 through adults. The classes are separated by rank (beginners and ad- vanced) and students meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. We also offer Little Dragon program designed for children ages 5 to 7. Little Dragons meet twice a week. This program is run concurrently with the beginning class. INSU NCE NORWALK PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT All programs consist of hand and foot techniques, forms, self-defense, lessons and instructions on topics such as respect, self-discipline and perseverance. Com- petition is also available for those students who are in- terested. Competition teaches sportsmanship, gives con- fidence and allows the students to use the skills they have learned in class. Families are strongly encouraged to join and train together. We found that the kids learn better when one or both of their parents/guardians are learning along side of them in class. Cost per session: Little Dragons (twice a week)-Norwalk residents: $46, Non-resident: $53; Family Tae Kwon Do (1st family member)-Norwalk residents: $57.50, Non-residents: $66.25; 2nd and 3rd Family Member-Norwalk residents: $28.75 each, Non- residents: $33.25 each; Maximum Family Fee-Norwalk residents: $115, Non-residents: $132.25; Time: 6 p.m.; Location: Oviatt Multipurpose room (Door #16); Reg- istration Dates: March 6 through March 17; Session Dates: March 21, 23, 28, 30, April 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27, May 2, 4, 9, 11; Minimum/maximum: 10/30. Cost of testing for belts and competition is extra along with an annual $20 association fee. COMMUNITY BASKETBALL OPEN GYM Stop by the gym to develop your shooting skills or to pick up a game of basketball. Make sure you bring a clean pair of tennis shoes to play ball. This open gym is for students (7th - 12th grade) and adults. Bring your own balls because of the limited amount at the school. Registration Dates: March 6 to March 17; Time: 6 to 9 p.m.; Program Nights: Monday, Tuesday, and Thurs- day; Dates: March 27 to May 25; Location: Lakewood Gym; Cost: $26.75 unlimited pass (tax included) or $5 one-time visit at door (includes sales tax); Minimum/ maximum: 15/50. MINOR BASEBALL & SOFTBALL (3RD, 4TH & 5TH GRADE) This program is for children who are currently in third, fourth and 5th grade. Girls will play softbalt and boys will play baseball. The children will have fun while learning the fundamentals of baseball or softball. Vol- unteer coaches will be needed. There will be two weeks of practices and four weeks of games (dependent on num- ber of teams). Registration Dates: March 13 to March 24; Softball Nights: Monday and Wednesday; Baseball Nights: Tuesday and Thursday; Program Begins: Week of May 8 (weather permitting); Time: 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.; Location: Norwalk-McAninch Sports Complex; Equipment needed: glove; Cost: $52 resident/S60 non- resident. COACH PITCH - BASEBALL & SOFTBALL (1ST & 2ND GRADE) This program is for children who are currently in first and second grade. Girls will play softball and boys will play baseball. The children will have fun while learn- ing the fundamentals of baseball or softball. Coaches will pitch to the batters. If the batter does not get a hit, the ball will then be placed on a tee. Volunteer coaches will be needed. There will be two weeks of practices and four weeks of games (dependent on number of teams).
