Page Four N/Warren Town and County News Thursday March 11, 2010 Caitlin Huffman, a se- nior at Norwalk High School has been awarded an academic honor schol- arship from Northwestern College, Orange City, for the 2010-11 school year. Huffman is the recipi- ent of a Collegiate Schol- arship, which awards a minimum of $6,000 per year. She is the daughter of Debra Huffman of Norwalk. Northwestern College is a Christian col- lege of more than 1,200 students in Orange City. Brendan Appel Brendan Appel, 18, a senior at Norwalk High School, was selected for the 2009 Junior All-Ameri- can Skeet Team by the Na- ................................... tional Skeet Shooting As- i sociation. Appel earned All-American points at various shoots during the 2009 season. Among his accomplishments were winning five single titles at the Iowa Skeet Champion- ships. He posted wins in 12 gauge, 410, Doubles, High Overall-Average and High All-Around. This was the most single titles won by an individual at an Iowa State shoot since the late World Champion, Boyd Wickman in 1994. Appel also competed at the Junior World Skeet Championships in July of 2009, where he posted top five scores in three gauges and finished eighth over- all. In other shooting ven- ues in 2009 he competed in the Scholastic Clay Target Program for the Des Moines Area Clay Crush- ers, based out of New Pio- neer Gun Club in Waukee. As Captain of the varsity team, he led his team to State Titles in Skeet, Trap Joseph Anson Joseph Anson, son of Sandra and the late Greg Anson, has been selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Midwest High School Hockey League 2010 Varsity Championship Tourna- ment. The tournament was held February 26-28 at the ISU Ice Arena in Ames. Anson scored the over- time winning goal in the semifinal against the Ma- son City Mohawks to put the Des Moines Capitals in the championship game held Sunday. The Des Moines Capitals defeated the Kansas City Outlaws in the championship game 3-0 to be recognized as the Midwest High School Hockey League 2010 Var- sity Champions. The Des Moines Capi- -tals are the 2010 Midwest High School Varsity Regu- lar Season Champions with 58 points, 28 wins, two losses, two ties. They have earned the opportu- nity to play Arizona, Indi- ana and Wisconsin in the National Hockey Tourna- ment being held in Chi- cago in April. Anson is a senior at Norwalk High School and has been a member of the Des Moines Capitals High School Hockey team for the past four years. Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus students Madi- son Ball left, of Glidden and Nichole Fayer of Norwalk visit with Simpson Col- lege Transfer Enrollment Director Gwen Schroder at a College Transfer Fair re- cently held on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. Ball is enrolled in DMACC's Lib- eral Arts program while Fayer is enrolled in DMACC's Accounting program. Rep- resentatives from 20 colleges and universities throughout the Midwest were on hand to answer questions from DMACC students and others considering trans- ferring to a four-year institution. Appel also competed in the Iowa High School Invitational Trap League in June of 2009. He was the high individual at the Iowa High School State Trap Championships with a score of 199/200.
