FreeStore Receives $5,000 Grant
FreeStore in Des
Moines has received a
$5,000 grant from Prairie
Meadows Racetrack and
Casino through its 2009
Community Betterment
Grant Program. Grant
funds will help to fund the
costs for furniture pickup
and delivery to domestic
violence victims in Polk,
Warren and Dallas counties.
In 2009 the FreeStore,
located at 1020 24 " St. in
West Des Moines, filled
258 requests for furniture
and delivered 187 tons of
household goods valued at
$402,000. The FreeStore is
an all-volunteer organiza-
tion with no paid staff and
operates on a budget of
$30,000 a year. For more

egories: Arts & Culture,
Economic Development,
Education and Human
Serv:ices.
Prairie Meadows re-
cently achieved a mile-
stone in giving more than
$1 billion through taxes,
granits and charitable do-
nati,ons to the State of
Iowa. More than $435 mil-
lion of that figure has re-
mained right here in our
community to promote
education, economic de-
velopment, agriculture,
jobs and tourism. Prairie
Meadows stands alone in
its charitable giving by re-
turning 43% of its rev-
enues back to the commu-
nity and continues to work
towards improving the
quality of life for every Io-
wan, every day.
Daffodil Day at Medicap Pharmacy
Medicap Pharmacy® is joining forces with the Ameri- " :-
can Cancer Society and the 2010 American Cancer Soci-
ety Daffodil Days® campaign in and around Polk
County. Daffodil Days celebrates the Society's mission
of saving lives and creating a world with less cancer
and more birthdays. The daffodil is the first flower of
spring and the American Cancer Society's symbol of
hope for a world with less cancer and more birthdays,
where cancer never steals another year from anyone's
life.
Daffodils will be available at participating Medicap
Pharmacy locations, including Norwalk, Thursday,
March 18 and Friday, March 19, while supplies last.
They will be donating flowers to local community
groups, spreading awareness and goodwill in honor,
memory and support of those who have heard the
words, "You have cancer." "Although Daffodil Days
involves offering daffodils to people in appreciation for
their contributions, it is about more than just giving
beautiful flowers. It is Medicap Pharmacy and
everyone's opportunity to share hope for a world free
