Nancy Kuehl was selected as one of three Norwalk
Chamber of Commerce Community Footprint Award
winners, and was honored at the annual chamber
banquet held at Echo Valley Country Club.
Nancy assumed her position as Norwalk's first and
only Parks & Recreation director in 1994. In that time
she has guided the growth of the community's
extensive park system, offered programs and venues
for numerous sports teams and athletes of all ages
and skills, and conceived and coordinated hundreds
of recreational programs attended by thousands of
Norwalk residents over the years.
Kuehl's most visible successes can be found in the
70 acres of parks with names familiar to everyone:
City Park, Brownie Park, McDonald Woods,
Windflower PArk, Billy O Phillips Park and the two
newest: Elizabeth Holland Park now in development
as part of a commercial and recreation area just east
of Highway 28, and Warrior Park, recently completed
on Orchard Hills Drive. For athletes and fitness fans,
Warrior Park offers a challenge course based on the
Play60 concept promoted by the National Football
League and American Heart Association to encourage
people to get at least 60 minutes of active exercise
each day. Course obstacles, each in Norwalk purple,
test strength, balance, speed and agility.
Congratulations, Nancy!
