Norwalk Residents Attend
Celebrate! Innovation Week
at the DMACC West Campus
Above, world-record endurance swimmer and best-
selling author Lynne Cox poses with 10-year old
Josie Albin, 12-year-old Lucie Albin and their mom,
Jennifer Wubben of Norwalk. Cox told a capacity
crowd at Celebrate! Innovation, held on the Des
Moines Area Community College (DMACC) West
Campus about setting a world swimming record by
crossing the English Channel at the age of 15, and
then resetting the record a year later. She is best
known for swimming across the Bering Strait from
the United States to Russia in 1987. She also talked
about being the first to swim 1.22 miles in Antarctica
where the air temperature was 31 degrees and the
water temperature 38 degrees.

Innovation week event. Choi is a Korean-American
chef who gained prominence as one of the founders
of the gourmet food truck movement. Choi created
and co-founded the gourmet Korean taco truck, Kogi.
He most recently opened a restaurant in Las Vegas
titled, "Best Friend."
South Suburban YMCA Summer
Day Camp Taking Registrations
The South Suburban YMCA, 401 E. Army Post
Road, is offering day camp for youth who have
completed Kindergarten-6th grade. Weekly sessions
begin June 3rd and run through the week of August
16th, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Y Day Camp: All-day program for children
Kindergarten - 6th grade, includes swim instruction
(3 days/week), free lunch program through the Des
Moines Schools, and outdoor adventures.
Registrations are now being accepted. Call 285-

registration is required.

Norwalk Police Report
This information was obtained directly from
the Norwalk Police Department.
Disclaimer: All defendants are innocent
until proven guilty in a court of law.
March 7th
Fraud - 800 block Main Street. Bank reported
several stolen checks had been cashed at their
location, as well as two other bank branches.
Information was taken and a report made. Case
remains under investigation at this time.
Vehicle Crash - Sunset Drive & Beardsley. Vehicle
driven by Malcolm Short, Norwalk, struck a vehicle
driven by Jennifer Menendez Baires, Des Moines.
Information was taken and a report forwarded to the
Iowa Department of Transportation. Following the
crash, a dog that was removed from the Menendez
Baires' vehicle, bit one of the responding paramedics
on the hand.
March 9th
Impaired Driver- West North Ave & Orchard Hills
Drive. Marc Matheny, Norwalk, was arrested and
charged with Operating while under the Influence,
and was given a written warning for Failure to
Maintain Control. Subject was processed and
transported to the Warren County jail.
Theft - 8000 block Augusta Circle. Watch was
reported stolen from a residence. Victoria Brock,
Norwalk, was arrested and charged with Theft.
Subject was processed and released to appear at a
later date.
Vehicle Crash - Highway G14 and 50th Avenue.
Vehicle driven by Andrea Knisley, Grimes, left the
roadway and struck a utility box. Information was
taken and a report forwarded to the Iowa Department
of Transportation.
March 10th
Theft - 700 block Beardsley. Gasoline was reported
stolen from a convenience store. Information was
taken and a report made.
March 11th
Drug Equipment Violation - 2100 block Shady
Lane Drive. Todd Rooney, Norwalk, was arrested and
charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Subject was processed and released to appear at a
later date.
March 12th
Identity Theft - 600 block Orchard Hills Dr. A
resident discovered a fraudulent account opened
using his identification. Information was taken and
a report made.
March 14th
Credit Card Fraud - 1900 block Cedar. Resident
discovered fraudulent charges on a credit card
account. Information was taken and a report made.
Case remains under i vestigation.

Tuesday Talks Series at the
Norwalk Library
The next installment of the Tuesday Talks series
will be held Tuesday, March 26th, at 6:30 p.m. at the
Norwalk Easter Public Library, 1051 North Avenue.
The topic will be budget - join Norwalk city leaders
for a conversation about the City Budget.

Greenfield Township - accident-property damage.
Billy Fisher, 65, Des Moines, was arrested for OWI
1st and failure to maintain control.
March 7th
Greenfield Township - criminal mischief. Amber
Aldridge, 31, Warren County, reported criminal
mischief to her vehicle.
March 8th
Martensdale - traffic. Dwight Frazier, 57,
Patterson was arrested for OWI 1st.
March 9th
Jackson Township - medical/ambulance call.
Christopher Douglas, 19, rural Warren County, was
cited and released for possession of marijuana and
possession of drug paraphernalia.

your 2018 total annual household
income was less than $23,216 and
one of the following applies:
* 65 years of age or older by
December 31, 2018
* Totally disabled and 18 years of
age or older by December 31,
2018
Claims must be filed with the Warren County Treasurer's Office
by June 1,2019.
MOBILE/MANUFACTURED/MODULAR HOME REDUCED
TAX RATE
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? You are eligible to claim a reduced tax
rate if your 2018 household income was less than $23,216 and
you were 23 years of age or older as of December 31, 2018.
Claims must be filed with the Warren County Treasurer's Office
by June 1, 2019.
RENT REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
1. You lived in Iowa all or part of 2018, and live in Iowa now,
AND
2. Your household income is less than $23,216, AND
3. The rental unit you lived in is subject to property tax, AND
4. You (or your spouse) were born before 1954, OR
5. You (or your spouse) were age 18-64 as of December 31,
2018 and totally disabled.
Forms must be filed no later than June 1, 2019 with the Iowa
Department of Revenue.
IOWA SPECIAL ASSESSMENT CREDIT
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? The following IOWA RESIDENTS are
eligible to file a claim for special assessment credit if your 2018
total annual household income was less than $11,960 and one
of the following applies:
* 65 years of age or older by December 31, 2018
* Totally disabled and 18 years of age or older by December
31, 2018
Claims must be filed with the Warren County Treasurer's Office
by June 1,2019.
