OBITUARY
MABEL GILLETT
Services and burial were •held in Waterloo Saturday,
March 23, for Mabel Gillett, 88, Waterloo. She died
Monday, March 18, at Mercy Hospital due to injuries
received in a fall.
Mrs. Gillett was born August 26, i924 in New Hart-
ford, the daughter of John David Forest and Tillie
(Huisman) Hersey. She graduated from New Hartford
High School in 1941 and graduated from Gates Busi-
ness College.
September 12, 1947, she married James L. Gillett in
Waterloo. He died August 15, 1986. She farmed with
her husband and theft was business manager for Jane's
Flowers & Gifts, retiring in 1976. After retirement, she
served as a missionary in Ireland from 1977 - 2009.
Survivors include her son, James W. (Jean) Gillett of
Dublin, Ireland; daughter, Mary (Paul) Kline of
Norwalk; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Priscilla) Gillett,
Ft. Montgomery, TX, Julie (Andy) Burnfield, Longview,
TX, Mark (Jessalyn) Kline, Des Moines, Leah (Abram)
Miller, Dubuque, Sarah (Jonathan) Bracewell, Lawton,
OK and Lois Kline, Norwalk; 12 great-grandchildren,
Zoe and Lexi Gillett, Amelia Burnfield, Caedmon,
Jayden and Benjamin Kline, Josiah, Jude and Joshua
Miller, James, William and Daniel Bracewell; brother,
Fred Hersey, Waterloo; four sisters, Gloria Card,
Marshalltown, Betty Ehmen, Waterloo, Minnie (Fred)
Feckers, Clarksville, and Jane Rice, Waverly.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Hersey.

NSEF is also getting ready for graduation and schol-
arships. We will be giving three scholarships this year,
the Dedication Scholarship in honor of the late Brenda
Hurdle, long-time employee of Norwalk Schools and
her family, the Principal's Award and the Vivian
Schneider Memorial Scholarship.
We will be also granting our Spring 2013 Teacher
Grants soon. Stay tuned for the winners!

" OBITUARY
DANIEL LLOYD
Daniel Lloyd, 92, Norwalk, died Monday, March 18,
in the company of his wife of 65 years, Jean. Per his re-
quest, he was cremated and no services were planned.
Mr. Lloyd was born in Beacon February 10, 1921 to
Esther (Griffiths) and Thomas Lloyd. After graduating
from high school, he served his country during World
War II in the Navy. He then worked for the CMSTP&P
Railroad from 1946 to 1961 and for John Morrell & Com-
pany from 1961 until retirement in 1986.
Mr. Lloyd was a 50-year Mason and a member of
Southgate Masonic Lodge. He also enjoyed woodcarv-
ing.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean; sons, John,
Thomas and David; grandchildren, Heather, Adrienne,
Samuel, Bryan, Erica and Shelby and great-grandson,
Kayden.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the
Norwalk Volunteer Fire Department.
OBITUARY
HAROLD "DICK" EVANS
Services were held in Webster City Friday, March 22,
for Harold "Dick" Evans, 70, Winterset, who died Fri-
day, March 15, in Des Moines. . •
Survivors include his children, Reginald "Reg"
(Leslie) Evans of Mesa, AZ, Richard "Rex" (Debra) Evans
of Webster City and Raejean (JD) Merritt of Winterset;
six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Betty
VanDePol of Norwalk, Roberta (Jack) Klingborg of
Cherokee and Rosemary (Michael) Shaw of Rathdrum,
ID; and many nieces and nephews.
OBITUARY
LINDA CRABTREE
Services were held at Staves United Methodist
Church in Des Moines Friday, March 22, for Linda (Coo-
per) Crabtree, 73, Des Moines, who died Monday, March
18, at Taylor House Hospice after fighting cancer the
past 24 years.
Mrs. Crabtree was born December 18, 1939 to Blair
and Eva (Collins) Cooper in Lorimor. She graduated
from Lorimor High School in 1958. She was married in
December 1959 to Larry Tuttle; later they divorced. They
were the parents of three children. She was employed
by the Graham Group, Inc. for 17 years, retiring in 2003.
In 1995, she married Dennis Crabtree. They have en-
joyed dancing, traveling to several different countries
and around the United States. They volunteered through
the church and Lions Club and taking tickets at Drake
University basketball games.
She was a member of Staves United Methodist
Church, treasurer of the UMW at Staves and participated
in Church Women United. She received the Special Mis-
sion Recognition Award and was a bell ringer for Staves.
She was a member and secretary of the Altoona Li-
ons Club and received the Lions Warren Coleman Hon-
orary Award, Progressive Warren Coleman Award and
the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. She attended several
Lions International Conventions and the Lions USA
Canada Forums. She was also active in the Iowa Kidsight
screening program and was a tissue relay transporter
for the Iowa Lions.
Survivors include her husband Dennis; son, Randy
(Michele McBride) Tuttle of Farmington, MO; daugh-
ter, Kelli (Marty) Mahlow of Ankeny; grandchildren,
Cody Tuttle of Sikeston, MO; Mallory and Mason
Mahlow of Ankeny; step-sons, Scott (Renee) of Pleas-
ant Hill, MO, Lynn of Bothell, WA, Trent of Kansas City,
MO and Rob of Mesa, AZ; 13 step-grandchildren,
Stephen, Sam, Celeste (Brandon), Savannah (Scan),
Cheyenne, Sutton, Victoria (Ross), Andrew, Jamie, Jen-
nifer, Jacob, Adison and Ava; one step-great-grandson,
Liam.
Also sister-in-law, Dianna (John Ruley) Cooper of
Norwalk; brothers-in-law, Roy (Sandra) of Ankeny and
Phil (Christy) of Cincinnati, OH; and many nieces, neph-
ews, cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, JoLynn
Tuttle; her parents; brother, Ron Cooper, and mother-
in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Hilda Crabtree.

United Methodist Church, Iowa Lions Eye Bank and
Taylor House.
