No ..a]k Athletes Qualify for MN Swim Meet The Midwest Regional Championship Swim Meet at the University of vlinnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis was held March 23-24. There were over 1,000 ath- letes, ages 5-18, from nine different states that competed at this meet. To attend Mid- west Regionals, swimmers must earn qualifying times during the competitive swim season. The South Des Moines Swim Club had 31 of their swimmers qualify for this meet and nine of these athletes live in the Norwalk area. The Norwalk swimmers earned numerous ribbons at the Midwest Regional Swim Meet andall imProvedon their individual best times. Will Chase (age 7): 50 Yard Free. Brayden Clark (age 12): 50 Yard Free, 12 and under 200 Yard Medley Relay - 8th, 12 and under 200 Yard Free Relay - 7th, 14 and under 200 Yard Free Relay - 5th. Hunter Evans (age 10): 50 Yard Free, 12 and under 200 Yard Medley Relay - 8th, 12 and under 200 Yard Free Relay - 7th. Caia Neimeyer (age 10): 50 Yard Backstroke, 12 and under 200 Yard Medley Relay, 10 and under 200 Yard Free Relay - 15th. Mason Starmer (age 16): 50 Yard Free, 100 Yard Free, 100 Yard Breaststroke - 18th, 18 and under 400 Yard Medley Relay - 12th. The top 16 finishers in each event received team points and the South Des Moines Swim Club earned a total of 308 team points. These Norwalk swimmers are all members of the South Des Moines Swim Club. State Fair Parade Applications The Iowa State Fair in- vites all community and youth groups, special in- terest clubs and businesses to join the fun and enter the State Fair Parade, Iowa's largest parade and the kick-off to the Fair. The parade is set for Wednes- day, Aug. 7. "Nothing Compares" to the 2013 Fair, which runs August 8- 18. There is a $25 fee for each parade entry. Entries postmarked later than July 1 must in- clude a $15 late fee. No entries will be accepted after Juiy 15. The parade will begin at 6:15 pro. in downtown Des Moines. Highlights of the gala event will be re-broadcast on parade night through- out central Iowa on KDSM FOX t7. To Cheer at Shrine Bowl Courtney Maher and Allison Taylor. Photo submitted. Two decorated Norwalk seniors, Allison Taylor and Courtney Maher, recently competed with cheerleaders from across the state to try out for the Shrine Bowl cheer squ d. Taylor and Maher have been Captains of their cheer squads and letter winners all four years. Taylor cheered in the Shrine Bowl in 2012, has been an All-State cheerleader for two years, an All-Ameri- can, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society, the honor roll and on the National Council on Youth Leadership. Maher was an All-American nominee and has been recognized by the school board and the State of Iowa for her academic achievements as has her achievements in cheerleading. Taylor plans on attending Iowa Central in the fall and hopes to cheer while studying pre-med. Maher is attending Northwest Missouri State where she hopes to cheer and study elementary education. Both girls earned the privilege to cheer at the 41st Annual Iowa Shrine Football Classic at the UNI-Dome. The event will take place Saturday, July 27, at 7 p.m. Both girls are selling advance tickets for the game at $10 each ($15 at the gate). If you are unable to attend the game you rrfay give a donation. They are also selling ads for the Shrine Bowl program.
