Box 325, Norwalk, IA 50211 Member of: National Newspaper Iowa Newspaper Association Association f Norwalk Lions Club @ "We Serve" Norwalk Lions Club members want to share with area residents some of the projects and opportunities the group provides for the Norwalk area community through their various donations and fundraising events. Lions Club members are men and women who serve the community and ask that others consider joining them with their volunteer efforts. The club meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Norwalk Easter Public Library. Following are some of the group's recent ac- tivities. March and April Donations: $500 Iowa KidSight plus $120 personal donations; $100 Iowa Lions Visual Im- pairment Camp; eye glasses for an elementary student and a total of $800 to the following groups: Norwalk Parks and Recreation, Norwalk Warrior Baseball, Norwalk After Prorri' and RUNorwalk. Current fundraisers include distributing Dine to Donate coupons for the Perkins Restaurant on McKinley in Des Moines (coupons good for this location only). The club receives 10% of the total sales when a customer uses the Dine to Donate coupon. If you would like a coupon, contact any Norwalk Lions Club member. Also the group has begun to collect for the July 3rd Raffle. (More details coming in future issues of this newspa- per.) Future events members of the club are working on include Norwalk Three Senior Scholarships, a Blood Drive Thursday, April 22, at St. John's the Apostle Catho- lic Church, a Walk and Knock service project-for the Norwalk Food Pantry and seeking donations for the July 3rd Raffle/Bingo/Fireworks display. Note: July 4th ac- tivities will take place on Saturday, July 3. OBITUARY LENNAE "LILLIAN" KELSO Lennae "Lillian" Kelso, 58, Norwalk, died Tuesday, March 30, following a battle with cancer. Her family received friends at Westover Funeral Home Friday; April 2. Mrs. Kelso was born June 13, 1951 in Des Moines. She loved rainbows after a thunderstorm, gardening and canning. Survivors include her husband, Ken; and children, Trista, Tonya, Dustin, Charles and Melissa; grandchil- dren, Tayler Rae, Max, Malia, Austin, Nathan, Josh, Melina and MaJa; and a niece, Tanya Felflman and sis- ter, Evelyn Aldrich. OBITUARY ELMER "SWEDE" KALVIG Services were held Wednesday, March 31, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale for Elmer "Swede" Kalvig, 83, West Des Moines. Mr. Kalvig died Saturday, March 27, at Urbandale Health Care Center. Interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date at Norway Township Cemetery, rural Kanawha. Born August 8, 1926, Mr. Kalvig was the third child of Elmer and Elma (Asbe) Kalvig in Clear Lake. He graduated in 1944 from Kanawha High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. He mar- ried Iola Berkeland September 22, 1957. When in Kanawha, Mr. Kalvig worked in construc- tion and in the family restaurant and clothing businesses. The family moved to Des Moines in 1960 where he worked for a drywall company and later as security for Meredith Publishing, retiring in 1988. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Kalvig was a member. Survivors include his wife, Iola; five children, Den- nis of Spotsylvania, VA, Larry of Urbandale, Tim of Norwalk, Carol (Ken) Calkins and Debbie (Chuck) Ellsworth, all of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Brandi (Bryan) Voracek, Jon (Kelly), Dan, Kolbe and Jenna Kalvig, Kenny Calkins, Mikayla, Dallas and Caleb Ellsworth; great-grandchildren, Riley, Madison, Alexander and Kailyn Voracek and Judah Kalvig; sib- lings, Deloris (Alvin) Harrinstein, Alvin Kalvig, Darrel Kalvig and Elaine Hegland. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Naomi Hamlin and brother, Jerry.
