Norwalk Girls Track Results
The Norwalk girls track
team opened the season at
the Simpson Invitational
Saturday, March 28. The
team finished third overall
behind Urbandale and
Southeast Polk. The team
showed a lot of potential
with five 1st place finish-
es.

Norwalk M.S. Concert Bands
Rate High in District Contest
Saturday, Feb. 14, the
Norwalk M.S. 7th and 8th
grade Concert Bands com-
peted in the South Central
Iowa Band Association
Contest (SCIBA) Festival
hosted at the Norwalk Per-
forming Arts Center, for a
division rating of 1+, 1, 2
or 3.
The 7th grade Concert
Band participated in their
first competition ever as a
large ensemble and had an
"Excellent" rating perfor-
mance that received a I.
The two judges gave this
group a 33 and a 35 out of
40 points, between 36-40 is
a division I+ rating. Some
of the comments included:
this band needs to im-
prove on balance and
blend of the overall band,
lots of air support in the
instruments, and improve
our dynamic contrast.
Most of these areas will
come with more experi-
ence.
The 7th grade began
their performance with
"Rites of Tamburo" by
Robert W. Smith. The sec-
ond selection was "Hymn
for a Child" by James
Swearingen. The final se-
lection was the "Honor
Guard March" by R. M.
Geisler.

The 8th grade Concert
Band gave a great perfor-
mance and received an
"Excellent" rating of 1;
they received a 32 and a 35
out of 40 points. The judg-
es enjoyed the literature
we had performed and the
difficulty level it was and
how well we performed it.
The concert band opened
with "Flight of the Thun-
derbird" by Rob Grice. The
second selection was a bal-
lad "Deir' In De" by War-
ren Barker. We ended with
"Gallant Marines" by Karl
L. King arr. by James
Swearingen.

ful day for the instrumen-
tal department and we
were very proud of how
well the groups represent-
ed Norwalk Middle
School and also the Nor-
walk Community. The
Norwalk Instrumental

rie Krupke and Nick Men-
ke. We would also like to
thank all of the parental
and high school students
who volunteered to make
the day a success!
