Item 13-Council approved an Ordinance amending the speed regulations on IA 28 (Sunset Drive) north- bound and southbound. Currentl3 the speed is 55 mph and the speed will be reduced to 45 mph With no changes for the area already designated at 35 mph. Item 14-Council approved the final site plan for the Legacy Landing with a 3-1 vote. Item 15-Council approved a resolution regarding the site plan for Legacy Landing apartment complex 3-1. Council member Livingston cast the no vote. Item 16-Council approvea a resolution authorizing the disposal of surplus property at Public Works. Items to be disposed of include cell phones and this is due to the upgrading of the city's radio system. Garbage con- tainers in three locations will be replaced with contain- ers similar to those used in parks and along the bike trail. Item 18-Jonathan Martin of RDG shared additional drawings regarding an entrance sign for the city. No action was taken at this time. Council members shared some suggested changes regarding color and location of the signage. March Department Reports Norwalk Fire Department-Significant emergencies PO for March included grass fires. The department re- sponded to a semi-extraction on 1-35 and was aided by Martensdale. A larg# house fire on Pine Avenue had 20 of the 28 POC members respond to the call. Their re- sponse times were reviewed under national recom- mended standards and those times were very good as only two people were staffed at the time of the call to Pine Avenue. Training for March included EMS and fire training in cold water ice rescue related emergencies. There were 43 EMS calls and 25 fire calls for March. Parks and Recreation-The spring and summer bro- chure for Parks and Rec has been distributed to area businesses. Older Persons with Active Lifestyles (OPALs) lunch had Police Chief Greg Staples as their guest and he shared plans for the police dep*artment with the group. The park commission board met March 5 and the Dog Park was of high interest and a way to fund the .park is being researched. The commission suggested they not move forward with a new aquatic center if the city isn't going to help. Concession stand will be rented to JLS Vending for the summer. Norwalk Police Department-Incidents for March included several gas drive off larcenies at the Kum & Go on Sunset. Officers located the suspect, Uriel Castillo- Valdez, in Des Moines and charged him with three counts of theft.
