plat 3. This is a private street and not maintained by the
city of Norwalk.
Item 16-A Resolution approving the Final Plat for the
Sunset Square Plat 3 was approved by council. The plat
creates three lots and associated easements for the area
where the current Fareway store is located.
Item 17-Council approved a Resolution regarding the
Estates on the Ridge Preliminary Plat. This plat includes
50 single-family residential lots divided into three po-
tential phases. These are one acre lots.
Item 18-A Resolution approving an engineering
agreement related to the Iowa Economic Development
Authority (EDA) certified site program was passed by
council, It is an effort to address the lack of project-ready
industrial sites in the state. A potential site in Norwalk
is located south of Norwalk on Hwy 28 on property
owned by the Ancell and Knox families. While the land
is currently not in the city limits of Norwalk, the own-
ers are in favor of annexation. The 55 acres of ground is
directly south of La Quercia and Rowe Electronics.
Reports from Departments
Fire Department-Fire Chief Dustin Huston reported
five grass fires and a controlled burn of 20 acres. In-
spections for April included one commercial and six
rental completed, Final radio training and a Haz Mat
refresher was held. Calls for service included Emergency
Medical Services (EMS) of 48 and fire calls were 40 for
the month of April. The department's mutual aid calls
included Martensdale 1, Indianola 6 and Carlisle 6.
Norwalk Easter Public Library-Visitors to the library
in April totaled 5,157 and circulated 6,814. Forty-one
new library cards were issued. Director Holly Sealine
began maternity leave in April and Annette Clark, As-
sistant Director, will serve as Interim Director.
Parks & Rec-Jeff will be leaving the Parks & Rec and
joining the Indianola Parks and Rec Department. Direc-
tor Nancy Kuehl stated the Bike Safety Rodeo was a
success again this year.
Police Department-Chief Greg Staples saidZena the
drug dog began K-9 training with Officer Parker. Chief
Staples advised the launch of the department's Twitter
page. The site will be used for public notification of
important events regarding the city.

OBITUARY
EVA MAE GEHRING
Eva "Eve" Gehring, 87,
wife of Jack Gehring,
passed away peacefully at
St. Joseph Hospital in
Bangor, ME, Saturday,
May 10. Mrs. Gehring was
born in Clayton County,
IA, March 9, 1927, to Sam-
uel and Bernice Dennler.
She attended Cheery Val-
ley School and went on to
Elgin High School. At the
age of 16 she left Elgin and
enrolled in the Paris Acad-
emy of Beauty in Cedar
Rapids. She completed the
course for hairdressers
and returned to Elgin and
opened "Eva Mae's Beau-
ty Shop" when she was 18.
She operated the beauty
shop for several years and
then she married Jack Ge-
hring on June 4,1950. They
made their home in West
Elgin and during this time
two children were born.
In 1959 they moved to
Indianapolis, IN, where
Jack started his career with
the FAA. During the next
few years the family
moved to several locations
in the Midwest, ending up
in Norwalk. They lived in
Norwalk for36 years be-
fore moving to Bangor, in
2013.
Eva will be missed by
her surviving family: hus-
band of 64 years, Jack; their
daughter, Julie (Philip)
Eva Mae Gehring
Cormier of Bangor, ME
and son, Jeffery (Gaff) Ge-
hring of Lenexa, KS;
grandchildren, Isabel and
Ross Cormier and Lindsey,
Ryan and Jamie Gehring;
sister, Jane (Edwin) Hunt-
er of St. Petersburg, FL; sis-
ters-in-law, Janice (Wayne)
Thiese of Guttenburg and
Kathy (Dave) Elliff of Mar-
shalltown, plus a host of
relatives and friends.
Eva was a cheerful and
kind person with an ever-
present radiant smile; all
of us will miss her greatly.
"Don't cry because it's
over, smile because it hap-
pened." Dr. Seuss.
No services are planned
at this time; a memorial
service will be held later
this year.

BARBARA KAY CROAT

maculate Conception
Church in St. Marys for
Barbara Croat, 71, St.
Marys, who died Saturda3
May 10. Burial was in the
St. Marys Cemetery.
Mrs. Croat was born
March 30,1943 to Glen and
Theresa' Garner. She grad-
uated from Clarke Coun-
ty High School in Osceo-
la. She worked at the
Younkers Cosmetic De,
partment in Des Moines
before marrying Michael
Croat in 1962. She and her
sister-in-law, Linda, start-
ed their own business,
Croat's Country Crafts.
She was creative, talented
and enjoyed planning
weddings, bridal and baby
showers, dinners and par-
ties.
She also was a caregiv-
er to many, both old and
young. She loved family
dinners, camping, her
Dominoes group, red hat
events, listening to her
sons sing and watching
her grandchildren per-
form at functions.
Survivors include her
husband, Michael; chil-
dren, Todd (Karen) of In-
