Dear Sall3
May 10th was the 22nd Annual NALC food drive,
The rain held off until the very end. I would like to thank
all those residents of Norwalk, Cumming and
Martensdale for their generous donations. Scott's Foods
and Fareway stepped up to help also, it was greatly
appreciated.
We collected 1,964 pounds of food for our local food
pantry in Lakewood. It was 132 pounds less than last
year, but still a lot of food. I realize that there have been
so many smaller food drives the past few months and
you can't donate to everything. We really appreciate all
the great people in the area who are willing to help out
when asked. In these days of economic downturn and
so many unemployed it was truly great to see so much
outpouring of generosity.
We collected a large variety of items to stock our lo-
cal food pantry this year. It should be full for a few
months.
Thanks to all the postal employees who worked that
day, they put in that extra effort to make it happen, I am
proud to be a part of that team. We had some new people
helping this year, Hunter Reid and-Scott Kern, new
employees stayed until the end and helped transport
food to the church. Postmaster Kristi Douglas and her
two grandsons, Charlie and Dillon Slaugh went around
Lakewood and pickedup food and brought it back to
the post office. I drove around town and collecteda lot
and went back to the post office to weigh it all and put
in tubs. Thank you to Dominic Cimino for loariing me
the scale to weigh it all, it sure was a big help!!
It was a long daTfi but Todd Greenslit, Hunter Reid,
Scott Kern, Sharon Ripperger and I stayed until all the
weighing was done, trucks loaded at the post office and
unloaded at the church. Thank you so much!
Without the help and continued support of employ-
ees and residents we could not have made it such a suc-
cess. We are looking forward to next year.
Some residents say they had no idea we did this. I
am sorry for the miscommunication. We deliver post-
cards to everyone in town the week of the drive and put
articles in the local newspaper. If anyone has any idea
how to promote this more please let me know and I
will try to do it for the 23rd next year.
