GARRETT Concluded from p. 8 cannot have more than one unrelated passenger in the vehicle with them at a time while they are driving. There is no parental waiver in this case. The reason for the change was that we were told that re- search shows that the more minor passengers in a vehicle driven by a young teen, the more likely it is that the driver will be distracted and ,in- volved in an accident. Visit With 1-35 Middle School Students A short time ago I re- ceived a packet of letters from 1-35 seventh and eighth graders making rec- ommendations on two bills that the legislature considered. They were Senate File 115 described above, having to do with driver's licenses for young teens, and House File 649, regarding landowner li- ability that I have dis- cussed before. As a follow- up, I was pleased to be able to meet with the 1-35 Middle School students and teachers for a short discussion of the issues. I was very impressed with the research and thought that the letters they wrote demonstrated. As always, feel free to contact me with your ideas or concerns at 515-281- 3221 or Julian.Garrett@ legis.iowa.gov.
