Awarded
Funds from
Wellmark
Wellmark Blue Cross
and Blue Shield is
awarding six comm-
unities in Iowa and
South Dakota funds as
part of its 3-Point Play
program. Throughout
the entirety of the 2018-
2019 college football and
basketball seasons, each
time a successful field
goal was kicked or 3-
point basket was made
during a game, area
sports fans were en-
couraged to nominate
their Iowa or South
Dakota hometown for a
chance to win.
"We're thrilled to
announce we received a
record number of home-
town nominations this
season," said Chris
Verlengia, Wellmark's
senior brand marketing
manager. "It's exciting to
watch this program grow
and positively impact so
many people. By pro-
viding resources that
encourage Iowans and
South Dakotans to lead
healthier lifestyles, we're
able to help these
communities toward a
future of better health for
generations to come."
At the end of this year's
basketball season, the
nominations were tallied.
More than 400 home-
towns were nominated
between the two states.
Funding was awarded to
initiate or complete
community health im-
provement projects in
Norwalk, Carlisle, Lohr-
ville, and Hudson, Iowa,
and Redfield and Ver-
million, SD. Norwalk will
be receiving $14,600 for
its university affiliation
with Drake University.
Since the program's
founding in 2010,
City State Bank
Makes Kick-Off Donation to
Norwalk Physical Education
Competition Center
City State Bank has announced a $100,000 donation to the Norwalk Physical
Education Competition Center (NPECC) project.
City State Bank has been a part of the Norwalk community since 1895. They
pride themselves on being good corporate citizens that volunteer and give back
to the communities that they serve.
City State Bank President Steve Albrecht said, "This is a great project for our
community, our school, and for the employees, customers, and families that will
use this facility for years to come. I am excited to announce that City State Bank
is donating $100,000 to the CSB Charitable Foundation to be used towards the
new Norwalk Physical Education Competition Center. We are proud to have
supported this community for over 120 years, and we are proud to be a leader in
helping this project move forward."
Jaki Livingston, Norwalk Physical Education Competition Center committee
member, said, '%Vith all of the exciting things happening in Norwalk-so much
new housing, so many new commercial and industrial businesses, national
recognition as the safest city and one of the best places to live in Iowa-school
enrollment is increasing and student participation in activities is increasing. I
put three children through Norwalk Schools and we have supported the growth
in enrollment as well as physical structure. It is time for the physical education
program to move forward. The current high school gymnasium was built in 1966/
67 when the student population was 153 students. The current population is
about 3100 students. We need to accommodate the growth in population by
providing at least an adequate education space."
Livingston added, "The NPECC facility we have been showing the public is a
$14M facility. The school will bond for $11M in February, 2020. The community
needs to raise $3M-$5M to have the facility we want and need to accommodate
the needs of the students. The $100,000 donated by City State Bank kicks off
the fundraising and is a great support to the efforts of the school and the
community fundraising committee in bringing the full design to fruition."
Pictured are City State Bank employees with their donation check, as well as
Norwalk Schools faculty and students.
