"Grim Reaper" Program Teaches Drinking and Driving Awareness The end of April this !i year, approximately 18 dif- ferent agencies assembled to form a committee for a drinking and driving awareness program at South East Warren High School, called "Every 15 Minutes." The two-day program started by having a "Grim Reaper" pull students and teachers out of class every 15 minutes, symbolizing the number of alcohol-re- lated deaths there are in the United States. The planning commit- tee then simulated a mock two-car accident in front of South East Warren High ch001. As often in a real case, the students were able to observe local Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, Medical Examiner, Mercy One and countless other agencies and organi- zations conduct them- selves in their professional responsibilities. Partici- pants of the mock crash were then transported to Lucas County Health Cen- ter, Warren County Sheriff's Office, and finally in a Court Room setting. The first day ended with participants and par- ents regrouping at South East Warren High School for a question and answer session with local law en- forcement, the County At- torney and a special guest speaker. Day two began with a mock funeral for students in grades 7-12, where a lo- cal minister gave a short service. Student partici- pants then spoke about their experiences, parent participants spoke about their thoughts and the pro- gram concluded with a guest speaker talking about his personal tragedy. The Warren County Sheriff's Office appreciates all who helped make the program a success. Warren County Deputy Randy Spurr advised the pro- gram will be carried out in other school districts throughout the county. Photo submitted. 1514 North Lincoln, Suite C ?
