Registration forms for events are available 24 hours
a day at the Parks and Recreation office (1100
Chatham Avenue, inside the Norwalk Public Safety
Building) or print them off our website:
www.norwalk.iowa.gov. You can mail registration
forms, place them in our drop box, or walk in. Office
hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Monday thru Friday.
The drop box is open 24/7. If you have any questions,
please call us at 515—981-9206. On-line registration
is also available on our website: www.n0rwalk
parks.org.
We are now accepting Park Shelter House
reservations through October, and Pool Party
reservations for the 2019 season.
We are currently accepting applications for
the following seasonal positions: Youth
Baseball/Softball Umpires, Youth Soccer
Referees, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Pool
Maintenance, Pool Concessions/Admissions,
Sports Complex Tournament Crew. For more

Parks and Recreation Commission Vacancies:
Lots of new and exciting things are happening in the
Park and Recreation Department. If you are passionate
about parks and recreation and would like to be involved
please think of being a part of our commission. We
require our Commission members to play an active role
and attend 1 meeting a month at City Hall.
We would especially love to have people Who have
experience with: youth and adult sports programs,
senior activities, trails/greenways, environmental
education, parks, grant writing, volunteerism, or
horticulture.

Junior Police Academy
The Norwalk Police Department is again
conducting the Junior Police Academy for the City of
Norwalk. The program is a partnership between the
Parks and Recreation Department and the Norwalk
Police, and is an opportunity for the police officers to
build a positive bridge with the youth of the
community. This program is for students who
completed 3rd through 6th grade. Cadets will take
part in fingerprinting, investigating a crime scene,
taking photos, casting footprints, and misc. police
work. Each student will receive a tee shirt at the end
of the week. Program dates July to July 12
PeeWee Flag Football (lst — 3rd grade)
This fundamental program is for children entering
1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade this coming school year.
Children will learn offensive and defensive
fundamentals of football. Parks and Recreation
provides a team shirt. This is a six—week program;
players will have practices/ games twice per week. The
number of participants will determine the eXact
nights, due to limited field space. Volunteer coaches
will be needed! Program tentatively begins the week
of August 19. " ‘
Fall Soccer lst — 7th grade
This soccer program is for children entering 1st
through 7th grade Fall 2019. Soccer is great aerobic
sport and many children enjoy playing the game
because of the constant motion. Shin guards are
required to participate in this sport. Parks and

Recreation provides a team shirt. This is a six-week
program including one game and one practice each
week. Volunteer coaches will be needed! Program
tentatively begins the week of August 19.
Fall Soccer Kindergarten
This soccer program is split for boys and girls
entering Kindergarten Fall 2019. Soccer is great
aerobic sport and many children enjoy playing the
game because of the constant motion. Kids will have
fun while learning the fundamentals of soccer. Shin
guards are required to participate in this sport.
Parks and Recreation provides a team shirt. This is
a six-week program including one game and one
practice each week. Volunteer coaches will be
needed! Program tentatively begins the week of
August 19.
Fall Just for Kicks ‘(PreK)
This soccer program is for children 4_ or 5 years old
that have NOT started Kindergarten yet Fall 2019.
This is a coed league. Soccer is great aerobic sport
and many children enjoy playing the game because
of the constant motion. Kids will have fun while
learning the fundamentals of soccer. The skills of
dribbling, passing, and shooting will be introduced.
Shin guards are required to participate in this sport.
Parks and Recreation provides a team shirt. This is
a six—week program including one week of practices
and five weeks of games. Volunteer coaches will be
needed! Program tentatively'begins the week of
August 19.
Fall Rounded Minds Soccer
This program is a four week lesson soccer series
that teaches your child to speak Spanish while
learning soccer skills through fun games, songs, and
positive reinforcement. They do not play games. For
children ages 3 to 6. Program tentatively begins the
week of August 19.
Art in the Park
Come join us in the park to make special arts and
crafts projects. The kids meet once a month and make
a different project each month. This program is for
students who just completed Kindergarten through
sixth grade. Program’dates June 21,‘ July 19, and
August 16.
OPALS Older People with Active Life Styles
Senior Citizen Exercise
Everyone ages 55 and older is invited to attend a
free exercise program that will include stretching and
toning. We will meet at Christ Our Savior Lutheran
,Church (new location) located at 515 Sunset Drive.
3Registration is not required. This a continuous
program every Monday and Wednesday from 10-
10:30 a.m. )
Deadline for all legals, news stories,
