Thursday, June 26, 2014 N/Warren Town and County News Page Nine Eighth Graders Visit Washington, D.C. Forty-nine 8th graders and three chaperones visited Washington, D.C. for three days recently. Points of interest for the first day included touring Gettysburg battlefields and museum and several of the monuments in D.C. Students saw the WWII, Korean, Martin Luther King and Eisenhower memorials. The second day began with a trip to Arlington Cemetery to view the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and watch the changing of the guard. The 8th graders also were able to honor an Iowa Native, James Justice, and lay memorial coins and stones. Students were also able to see the National Archives and go to the Holocaust Museum. In the evening, more memorials were visited, including the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. The last day included a trip to Mr. Vernon and the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. When asked what their favorite thing was, many stated that it was the Holocaust Museum and all of the memorials. Chaperones included Teresa Davidson, Lynda Downs and Tricia Kurtt.
