"\ Thursday, June 27, 2013 N/Warren Town and County News Page Eleven The Warren Family It's a Family Affair By Mary Lou Gray Rick and Tammy Warreh of Norwalk own what is called a King Midget car. Rick's interest in owning a Midget car started in the late '60s when his father purchased a Model II. Rick's father, Gary Warren of Des Moines, has a Model III and Rick and Tammy's daughter and husband own a Model II Midget. Gary first saw the Midget car in a Popular Mechanics magazine. As a family, the Warrens own six King Midgets. Midgets became popular in 1946 with a single seater available from the factory as a kit or could be purchased fully assembled with a six hp engine. In 1951 the Model II was developed as a two-passenger convertible powered by a 7.5 hp engine. This Midget was sold for $500. The Model III was introduced in 1957. All three original models are street legal but newer models of the King Midget are not, due to the new safety regulations. Tammy and Rick plan to attend the King Midget Jamboree to be held in Des Moines August 8, 9 and 10. Friday, Aug. 9, the Warrens will be in Norwalk with their Midget on display at Harvey's Automotive, Scott's Foods and Ted Late Garden Center. For more information on King Midget cars, go to their website at www.kingmidgetcarclub.org. Look for the Warrens in Norwalk's Fourth of July pa- rade.
