Photo submitted. Brittany Bakos of Norwalk has been selected by the faculty at AIB Col- lege of Business as Out- standing Accounting Stu- dent in the bachelor's de- gree program. Bakos vied for the honor against 23 other accounting students who had attained a cumu- lative grade point average of 3.75 or higher in all their AIB classes - not just ac- counting - over the course of the previous year. Bakos has a track record of academic achievement, serving as president of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Southwestern Community College while earning her associate de- gree. As someone who has spent her life moving back and forth between Iowa and Florida, Bakos appre- dates the flexibility of tak- ing her bachelor degree studies completely-online. She also enjoys the chal- lenge of working out an- swers on her own. "I enjoy engaging my mind," Bakos says. "I hope to sit for the CPA exam even though my interests lie in the private sector. I just want to prove to my- self that I can do it." Bakos works as a uni- versal office clerk at City Supply Corp. in Des Moines. She visits family and friends in her home- town of Mapleton and has a variety of hobbies, many of which she shares with the 92-year-old gentleman she considers her best friend. "i've tried my hand in the kitchen and out in the garden and I even have fun in the woodworking shop," Bakos says. Bakos and other top stu- dents were celebrated re- cently at a reception at- tended by AIB faculty, staff and students.
