Middle School Art Safari 2011
By B.J. Garrison
Norwalk Middle School Art Safari Summer School Enrichment Class was a big hit with students learning the importance of seeing firsthand not only the animals and
creatures at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE, but the relationships the many zookeepers have with these animals to build their trust and confidence.
The summertime and full-time careers and background paintings and construction of each exhibit is an art display. The duplication of the environments links directly to
the animal's life while at the zoo, so this form of amusement begins and ends with the artists, architects and photographers.
The IMAX Theater Presentation on Born to be Wild was great on the caring for orphan baby elephants and "orangutans back into the wild.
This was truly an invaluable experience which will stay in most students' happy memory bank forever. We took what we saw and painted it, shaped it, cut it, designed
it, colored it and cherished forever. This group did awesome paintings, sculpturings, t-shirts and tessellations this week, which will. create evidence of this wonderful
adventure. This was our 20. consecutive year for Art Safari Art Enrichment Summer School Class. We appreciate the Norwalk Community for your support in this
adventure.
