Superheroes of all ages
are invited to rtha, walk or
fly at the Superhero Heart
Run, presented " by
Children's Hospital and
Medical Center, Sunday,
Sept. 7, at Raccoon River
Park in Des Moines. The
event is a 2K and 5K fun
run/walk raising aware-
ness for congenital heart
defects (CHD). Heart He-
roes, Inc. is proud to bring
this event to the area as the
first race of this kind for
CHD awareness.
"Congenital Heart De-
fects are the most common
of all birth defects affect-
ing about one out of every
100 babies born. Yet very
few people know it even
exists," states Sondra
Dubas, Superhero Heart
Run Executive Director
and co-founder of Heart
Heroes, Inc. "The Super-
hero Heart Run is being
launched as a nationwide
movement to create
awareness for CHD. More
importantly, it is an oppor-
tunity for the children and
families affected by CHD
to celebrate their incred-
ible journeys "of life with
CHD!"
This year's event begins
at Noon with registration
and family fun activities.
The 2K and 5K begin at 2
p.m. Each registrant re-
ceives an official Super-
hero Heart Run Cape with
their registration. Teams
are also encouraged to
fundraise for CHD aware-
ness and support by creat-
ing a team. Superhero cos-
tumes of all varieties are
encouraged!

Heart Heroes, Inc. is a
not-for-profit organization
created in 2009 by moms
wanting to empower chil-
dren who battle with the
cfaallenges of CHD. They
believe that each • of these
children are a hero, or "su-

State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald met with the
family of a Sioux City child to present a $5,290 College
Savings Iowa account. Mia Cramer, age 5 months, was
randomly chosen to receive the award after her grand-
mother, Barb, entered her for the giveaway as part of
College Savings Iowa's Spring Giveaway. "This is the
first grandparent to win one of our seasonal giveaways,"
Fitzgerald stated. "It demonstrates how families can
work together to help a child accomplish their educa-
tional dreams."
"With college tuition rising faster than inflation, sav-
ing for college is not an easy task these days," added
Fitzgerald. "Saving ahead of time is one of the most sig-
nificant things a family can do to help make college a
reality for their child. It can reduce a need to borrow to
cover educational expenses, which can help families get
through college with less debt."
College Savings Iowa offers a convenient, affordable,
tax-advantaged way for families t O start saving for their
