From the Publisher
Political "Letters to the Editor"
It is once again time to remind candidates, their cam-
paign managers and supporters that all political ads
must be paid in advance of publication in the N/Warren
Town and County News and all other sister papers.
In the past, we have received Letters to the Editor
supporting candidates for various offices. These will not
be printed as a Letter to the Editor, but will be accepted
as a paid political advertisement. Our policy for politi-
cal ads is they MUST be paid for in advance. The ad
must also carry a disclaimer with the name of the per-
son paying for the letter/ad. The cost will be the same as
for any of our advertising, $4.25 per column inch.
Letters/ads expressing pro- or con-sentiments for ei-
ther candidates or issues that the public will be voting
on during an official election will fall into this category
and must be paid in advance. As in all ads, we reserve
the right to accept or refuse any or all advertising/let-
ters.

Vote N(:) to higher taxes
The City Council has passed a 5% Franchise Fee (tax) on gas and electric services
to ALL Norwalk RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES, CHURCHES and SCHOOLS
But citizens of Norwalk successfully petitioned for a public vote on this issue.
This increase in city taxes CAN BE STOPPED if YOU VOTE NO on August 7th.
Norwalk's tax rate ranks 57 th highest out of 947 Iowa cities.*
The tax & spend plan of city government has reached its brea king point. The Council
must make tough choices based on income it has. We all want better police, fire and
rescue protection, it is not hard to explain the benefit to us. The money to pay for it
should come from within the budget rather than forcing already-too-taxed citizens to
cover another bill.
Norwalk Residents: Vote NO to higher taxes on August 7th!!i
