Warren County is hosting
the sixth annual "Growing
Season" webinar series in
Indianola Thursday, Aug.
13. Gardeners will learn
creative ideas for theme
gardens, planting trough
gardens, water features
and conservation, attract-
ing butterflies and bees,
and growing herbs.
Pollinators and Growing
Herbs, with ISU Reiman
Gardens curator Nathan
Brockman and Polk
County Master Gardener
Susan Appleget Hurst,
will be offered at Farm
Bureau (North Buxton en-
trance), 200 West Second
Avenue, in Indianola be-
ginning at 6:30 pm.
Master gardeners pro-
vide encouragement and
support to both new and
experienced gardeners. To
register contact Extension

master gardeners attend-
ing the webinar will earn
two continuing education
hours for each webinar.

Gardeners is sponsoring

O’Reilly Auto
Parts Fall
Extravaganza
O’Reilly Auto Parts will
sponsor a special two-day
fall racing event at the
Warren County Speedway
Friday and Saturday, Sept.
25 and 26: A] Nelson,
Track Manager, said that
the event will attract more
than 100 circle and figure—
8 race cars and will be the
largest such event in the
Midwest.
Winning drivers will
receive greatly increased
cash awards and the first
50 entries to sign up will
receive a $25 gift card from
O’Reilly Auto Parts at the
track. Qualifying heat
races will be held Friday
evening the 25th starting at
7 pm; and main events for
each of the four-circle track
classes and three figure-8
classes will be Saturday
the 26th starting at 5 pm.
Warren County Speedway
operates the largest and
fastest figure—8 track in the
entire Midwest and is
proud to partner with
O’Reilly Auto Parts to
make this event possible.

native, has implemented
several innovations to in-
crease driver participation,
grandstand attendance
and community involve-

Agricultural Extension
District (Extension) has
announced that Cortney
Garrington of Milo has
been hired as their Execu—
tive Director and will be—
gin in mid-August.
The Executive Director
position was made pos—
sible because of the posi-
tive county vote on the
Extension referendum at
the general election held
last November. As Execu-
tive Director, Garrington
will give leadership to
overall Iowa State Univer-
sity Extension and Out-
reach programs in Warren
County; coordinating and
conducting educational
programs to meet the
needs of the residents.

on Highway 92 east in

Join the Arbor
Day Foundation
Everyone who joins the
nonprofit Arbor Day
Foundation with a $10 d0-
nation will receive 10 free
Colorado blue spruce trees
through the Foundation’s
Trees for America cam;
paign.
The trees will be
shipped postpaid between
October 15 and December
10, depending on the right
time for planting in each
member’s area. The 6- to
12-inch trees are guaran-
teed to grow or they will
be replaced free of charge.
“Colorado blue spruce
trees provide homeowners
with numerous benefits,”
said Matt Harris, chief ex-
ecutive of the Arbor Day
Foundation. "They can be
used as an energy-saving
windbreak, for privacy, as
ornamental trees and even
as living Christmas trees
out in the yard. They truly
provide year-round
beauty for any landscape.”
New members of the
, Arbor Day Foundation
will also receive The Tree
Book, which includes infor-
mation about tree planting
and care, and a subscrip-
tionto Arbor Day, the
Foundation’s bimonthly
publication.
