(NAPS)--When you need a last-minute dessert, try Brownie 'n Cherry Pizza. Not only is it delicious and quick and easy to prepare, it can be made gluten-free--or not. The recipe was developed by Carol Kicinski, gluten-free recipe developer, TV chef and magazine editor-in-chief. "This one is simple to con- vert to gluten-free--just swap out the brownie mix if you desire," says Kicinski. Maraschino cherries make a fun and pretty topping. Keep a jar or two on hand to add color and flavor to just about any dessert or quick bread recipe. Brownie 'n Cherry Pizza Serves 12 1 box regular or gluten-free brownie mix* cup sliced almonds 16 ounces cream cheese (or dallT-free alternative), at room temperature cup sugar 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 20 maraschino cherries without stems, cut in half and patted dry ounce dark ehocolat grated * pins ingredients needed to prepare the brownies accord- ing to the package directions Preheat oven to 350"F. Grease a 12-inch pizza pan (nonperforated) with butter or gluten-free, non- stick cooking spray. Pre- pare the brownie mix accordi?ng to the package directions, spread into the prepared pan, and bake for half the time called for in the directions or until a toothpick inserted 2-3 inches from the edge comes out clean. Let cool completely. Toast the almonds in h dry skillet, stirring often, over medium-high heat until browned and fragrant. Let cool Whip thecream cheese, sugar and vanilla together until smooth. Burial was in the Norwalk Cemetery. Cleo Marlys Pauley was born in Franklin County August 4, 1932. She went to Simpson College to be a teacher. She taught for a few years before marrying James Pauley August 14, 1955. They moved to Norwalk in 1970. While in Norwalk, she was a school cook and an Avon Lady. She loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed camping, square dancing, singing, listening to hymns, reading and be- ing involved with her church. Survivors include her children, effery (Lisa) Pauley, Craig (Diana) Pauley and Melody (Mark) Morris; brother, Chester Worden; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Clifford (Sara), Juliana, Marlys Pauley Tyler (Abby), Dane (Abby) Paule3 Beth Peddle and Clayton and Cameron Adams; and five great- grandchildren, Reighan and Jazmyne Henning, Fletcher Pauley, Halley Joel and Jewel Peddle. OBITUARY ROGER DAVID OSTLUND A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at O'Leary Cele- bration of Life Center - Funeral & Cremation Ser- vices, 1020 Main St., for Roger David Ostlund, 75, Norwalk, who,died Tues- day, Aug. 5, at Iowa Meth- odist West Lakes in West Des' Moines. A reception with the family will follow services in the O'Leary Celebration of Life Com- munity Room. Mr. Ostlund, the fifth child born to Werner O. and Dora (Jacobson) Os- tlund, was born October 25, 1938 in Tolle3 ND. His siblings were John, Don, GordOn and Helen. He was raised in Tolley, grad- uating from high school in 1956. He earned a degree in Geology from the Uni- versity of North Dakota. He married Lucille Goodheart February 21, 1961 in To lley and they shared 44 years of mar- ,riage before she died in 2005 following a long fight with cancer. Mr. Ostlund worked for Shell Oil Com- pany as a driller and pro- duction superintendent. This gave the family the opportunity to live all over the world including North Dakota, Alaska, California, West Africa, Louisiana and finally retiring to Bakers- field, CA. He also volun- teered his time and engi- neering talents to the Com- memorative Air Force Southern California Wing in Camarillo to help re- store a WWII PBJ Marine Aircraft Bomber. Following Lucille's death, he married Judy Anderson April 28, 2006 in Roger Ostlund Des Moines, Lucille's life- long friend. For the past several years, they have lived between their homes in Montgomery, TX and Norwalk. He was a faith- ful servant of the Lutheran Church and was a member o.f The Loyal Order of Moose. Survivors include his wife, Judy Anderson, Nor- walk; daughter, Dawnett (Tony) Lanson of King- wood, TX and son, Joel (Nancy) Ostlund, Bakers- field, CA; Judy's children, Corey (Lori) Anderson of Omaha, NE and Trina (Mike) Mazza of Johnston; his grandchildren, Brent, Amanda, James, Nick, Erik, Adam, Kevin, Leighann, Justina, Brook- lyn and Austin; and great- granddaughter, Everly.
