Science and Art were combined for some Galapagos fun in June. July campers discovered nocturnal creatures galore. In August the seashore was explored. In honor of the Iowa State Fair, campers sampled foods on a stick. Summer activities also included horseback riding, boat rides, a visit to Blank Park Zoo, Ahquabi Lake and swimming to beat the heat. Student adventurers included ages ranging from three to 10: Emma Sizemore, Bobby Orsini, Liam McLaughlin, Ella VanRoekel, Olivia Dougherty, Mitchell Martinez, Kyan Tomkins, Kaden Tomkins, Veronica ~ewart, Victoria Stewart, Abe Mondloch, Alex DeCapp, Darby Trilk, Jacoby Robbins, Kennedy Robbins, Talan White, Jack White, Katie Thielen, Abby Silvers, Carter LaVelle and Emma Purdum. Junior staffers were Austin LaVelle and Elizabeth Purdum. Special guests included story- teller and puppeteer, Carol Albin-White and horse wrangler Katherine Schmidt. Multi-age classes that promote exploration and discovery are offered for three to five-year-olds at the rurally-located early childhood program. New Students Open House is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fall classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 30. To Make Crust: Press cookie dough into un- greased 12-inch pizza pa~ BRke in a preheated 350F oven for 15 minutes until done, but still soft. Cool. 2. To Make Fruit and Glaze: Combine sugar and corn starch in a small saucepan undl web mixecL Add orange juice, water, lemon juice and sal~ Bring to a boil ove~ medlmn heat, stirring constantly. 4.Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat. 5. Cool 20 minutes in the refrigerator. Press into a 9-inch pie pan. Bake at 350F f~ 8 minutss or until lightly browned. 2.To Make Fillln~. Mas]h (or puree) enough straw- ber~es to equal 1CUl~ add water. Combine sugar ~d corn starch~ in small saucepan. Stir in mashed strawberries. 3.Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens ami comes to a full boil (15 to 20 minutes). Boil 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in almond extract and salt. Cool 10 minutes. 4.Fill cooled crust with remaining whole straw- berries; pour cooked strawberry mixture over berries.
