- Page Four N/Warren Town and County News Thursday, September 17, 2015 Upper Iowa University in Fayette, announces the Dean’s List for the Summer term 2015. To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the semester and be enrolled as a full-time student. Among the honorees were Victoria Burks, a Psy- chology major from Des Moines and Nicole m«mu-Thomson, a Elementary Education major from Norwalk. Courtney Duver, Norwalk, majoring in nu- tritional science at Iowa State University, traveled to Valladolid, Spain for nearly two weeks to learn about the history and new trends in Spanish cuisine. Duver and fellow stu- dents on the trip learned about the culture and tra— JI—— ditional recipes as well as learned modern tech- niques in gastronomy in what is considered the hot— test country in culinary arts. While in country, the group got 40 hours of hands-on experience in a new kitchen facility With renowned chef instructors seeing the diversity of tra— ditional Spanish cuisine and new trends in gas- tronomy. In addition to learning culinary skills and tech- niques, students visited several food production facilities, noting the im- portance of the geographic locations in the marketing of traditional foods. All together these experiences provided the students with a whole new and unique view of food around the world. Des Moines Area Com- munity College President Rob Denson recently re- leased the names of stu— dents eligible for the Sum— mer Semester President’s List. To be eligible, a stu— dent must have earned a 4.0 grade point average.
