OBITUARY
PHYLLIS NEWHOUSE
Services were held Sat-
urday, Sept. 7, for Phyllis
Joan Newhouse, 81, Mari-
on, at Lutheran Church of
the Resurrection in Mari-
on. They were conducted
by Rev. Dennis Johnson,
assisted by Pastor David
Strable. Mrs. Newhouse
died Wednesday, Sept. 4,
at St. Luke's Hospital, Ce-
dar Rapids. Private family
burial was Monda3 Sept.
9, at Ames Municipal
Cemetery in Ames
Mrs. Newhouse was
born November 15, 1931
near St. Charles to Carl
Leslie and Louisa Mae
(Barber) Strable. She was
baptized and confirmed at
St. Paul Lutheran Church
in MartensdaIe. She'at-
tended all 13 grades and
graduated from Martens-
dale High School in 1949.
She enrolled at Iowa State
University where she met
her husband, Virgil Luth-
er Newhouse. They were
married November 25,
1951 at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Martensdale.
She was a charter member
of Lutheran Church of the
Resurrection in Marion.
She worked in accounting
at Collins Radio for more
than 40 years.
Mrs. Newhouse spent
many years contributing to
bowling organizations at
the league, association,
state and national levels.
She was a youth bowling
coach, Cedar Rapids Area
Secretar36 lifetime member
of the U.S. Bowling Con-
gress, was in the Cedar
Rapids Area Bowling Hall
of Fame, member emeritus
of the Women's Bowling
Association Iowa State
Chapter, President of the
Cedar Rapids Women's
Bowling Association for
several years and was in-
strumental in securing and
conducting the Women's
International Bowling
Convention and Tourna-
ment in Cedar Rapids in
Phyllis Newhouse
1991.
Survivors include her
husband Of62 years, Vir-
gil Newhouse, Marion;
daughter, Angela (David)
Newhouse Sweet of Des
Moines; sister, Sara Sue
(John) Groh of Johnston;
sisters-in-law, Sylvia Stra-
ble of Indianola and Aileen
Strable of Prole; nieces,
Kelly; Deborah, Sherry and
Deanna; nephews, Pat and
David; step-granddaugh-
ter, Caroline (Bob) Pester
and their sons, Matthew
and Andrew.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; be-
loved son, Brian Luther in
1975; brothers, Jack and
Frank; and two infant sis-
ters, Donna Mae and Shir-
ley Lou.
Memorials are pre-
ferred to the Phyllis J. Ne-
whouse Memorial Fund
and can be made at any

PHILIP JEFFERY FORD

in Boone for Philip Jeffery
Ford, 76, of Boone. Mr.
Ford died Friday, Sept. 6,
at his home. Interment was
in the Oakwood Cemetery
north of Stratford.
Mr. Ford was born May
31, 1937 in Ames to Jeff
and Mary (Speck) Ford.
He graduated from Strat-
ford High School. Mr. Ford

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETING ON 9-05-13 (abridged for publication)
The Regular City Council Meeting of the Norwalk City Council was held at the
.Norwalk City Hail, 705 North Avenue, on Thursday, September 5, 20"13. The
meeting.was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by Mayor Doug Pierce. Mayor first read
a letter of resignation from councilmember, Frank Curtis. Those present at roll
call were Mike Leto, Dave Murillo and Jamie Sylvester. Absent: Eric Delker.
(RC = roll call vote)
M{otion by Murillo and seconded by Leto to approve the Agenda as amended to
relmove (80 first reading of zoning C4 code amendment and (13.) proposed site
plan for Cedarbrooke Place apartments. Motion carried unanimously.
