She is starting out this season on the JV squad and working hard to make her way onto the Varsity team. Abby focuses on freestyle and breaststroke events and Abby swam on the Lincoln Middle School team prior to joining the high school team. Photo sub- mitted. Nicole Wright is entering her fourth year as part of the Lincoln High School Swim Team and her third year as a member of the Varsity squad. Nicole is a senior at Norwalk High School and makes the trip to Lin- coln every morning and afternoon to be part of the team. Nicole continues to swim several events as a senior, including freestyle, butterfly and backstroke. Se- nior Kit Anderson did not compete due to a strained hamstring muscle. The junior varsity boys had an impressive night, finishing third behind Pella and Grinnell. Lead- ing the way for the War- riors was freshman Salem Hildebrandt finishing 20 th in 19:54. Also adding to that third place finish were sophomore Jamie Stoffel placing 27 tl in 20:20, jun- ior Marcus Johnson plac- ing 36" in 20:45, junior Alex Kluesner placing 54"' in 22:00, sophomore Jake Kaul placing 61 t in 22:25 and sophomore Jake Simpson placing 62 nd in 22:26. The Norwalk- War- riors turned out some great performances in se- niors Megan Patava and Austin Dermody, junior Alexa Berkenpas and sophomores Tanner Riccelli and Sarah Adams. Patava brought a lot of energy and excitement to the girls race. She led the race until the last 200 meters when senior Erin Sawyers from Winterset put on the challenge. Patava and Sawyers went back and forth until the finish. Patava placed sec- ond in an excellent time of 16:02. Berkenpas stepped it up and ran a stellar time of 17:30 placing 23 rd and right behind her was Sarah Adams placing 25 th in 17:44. Also finishing well for the Lady Warriors var- 1 sity were: sophomore Hali _____] VanVelzen placing 40 th in 7 18:18, sophomore Cassidy Gornick placing 44 th in 18:25, freshman Brooke th Westphalen placing 49 in 18:35 and junior Madison Coons placing 51 st in 18:48. The varsity girls finished fifth out of 11 teams. Win- ning the varsity girls divi- sion was Southeast Polk. The junior varsity girls finished sixth out of eight teams. Winning the JV di- vision was Southeast Polk. The top Norwalk finishers were junior Olivia Bratt placing eighth in 18:40, freshman Clarissa Lewis placing 21 st in 19:31, sophomore Katie Luzier placing 35 th in 20:34, fresh- man Lauren Houk placing 46 th in 20:58 and sopho- more Devan Loffredo placing 50 th in 21:08. Senior Austin Dermody and sophomore Riccelli led the varsity boys for Norwalk placing 11 t" and IT" in 18:20 and 18:26. Dermody and Riccelli helped the varsity boys team finish in fourth place behind Grinnell, Pella and Ballard.
