Mees, 89, who passed away Monda Oct. 12, at Westview Care Cen- ter, willbe held 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. Visi- tation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Shirley gifted her body to Des Moines University and burial of her cremains will be held at a later date in the Nor- walk Cemetery. Survivors include her children, Cathy Vroman, Steve (Janet) Mees, Bernie (John) Rehbein and Rick (Michelle) Mees; 13 grand- children; seven great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene Mees; daughter, Connie Smith; son, Robert Mees; brothers, Delphos and Shirley G. Box 160 Norwalk, Iowa www.kwky.com OBITUARY DONNA HILL.SNIPES Donna Hill-Snipes, 81, died unexpectedly Mon- day evening, Oct. 12, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Oct. 17, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk. Memorial contributions to Make-A-Wish Founda- tion will be accepted. Donna May, the daugh- ter of Leo "Hoop" and Es- ther Rena (Black) Swallow, was born April 27, 1934, in Orilla. Donna's family moved to Waukee in the early 1940's where she graduated Waukee High School in 1952. She met her future husband, Harry "Dutch" Hill, at the gas sta- tion where she worked as an attendant. They were married June 7,1952 and to this union had 11 children. She was a homemaker and baby sat for other peo- ple /is Slve volun- teered as a Girl Scout Lead- er and towards the end of her child rearing days, she worked as a CNAat Regen- cy Care Center in Norwalk. She also worked ass ecre- tary at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, leaving this job to take care of Dutch, who died Septem- ber 21, 1984. Following this time she went back to work as an administrative assis- tant at Regency. For the last 13 years of her career she worked at Cassidy Phar- macy in Des Moines. Donna rekindled her friendship with a past high school classmate, James "Roe" Snipes, at their All- Class Reunion in 2001. They were married on Val- entine's Day 2003. Togeth- er they made their home in Norwalk. They enjoyed spending time with family, seeing shows at the Civic Center, visiting their farm near Osceola. Donna was a member of St. John the Apostle Cath- Donna Hill-Snipes olic Church in Cumming and NOrwalk. She enjoyed selling Longaberger Bas- kets and was an avid Chi- cago Cubs Fan. Mrs. Snipes lived 81 years, 5 months, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her first husband; her twin brother, Donald Swallow; a brother, John Swallow; and a grandson, Andy Runyan. She is survived by her~ husband, James "Roe" S~ipes= of Norwalk; her children, Pam (Joe) Llewel- lyn of Alaska, Sandi (Joe) Losee of Des Moines, Car- la (Rob) Trewett of Mon- tana, Carol Jean Hill of An- keny, Becky (Kevin) Johnson of Des Moines, Chad (Lora) Hill of Min- nesota, Joe (Sharon) Hill of Norwalk, Robin (Trent) Frohock of Altoona, Brian (Kelly) Hill of West Des Moines, Kristin (Patrick) Kelly of Missouri, and Mat- thew (Amy) Hill of Colo- rado, and step-daughters, Karen (Joel) Worthington of Newton, and Holly Pee- bler of Orient; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Kirkpatrick of Des Moines, and Shirley (Dick) Ross of Boone; a brother, Tom (Trish) Swal- low of Colorado; 33 grand- children; and 14 great- grandchildren. O'Leary Celebration of Life Center - Funeral & Cremation Services in Nor- walk were in charge of ar- rangements. OBITUARY MITCHEL D. FURNAS A funeral service, for Mitchel D. Furnas, officiated by Rev. Bob Chitwood, was held Monda3~ Oct. 12, at Hem- mingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Casket bearers were Martin Hayes, Sr., Billy Hayes, Robert Hayes, Jim Delaney, John Hermes, and Dave Furnas. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #23 and U.S. Navy Honors Detail. Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Walnut Grove Cemetery at Brownville. Mitchel David Furnas, born May 29, 1955 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, was one of six children of William Jen- nings Bryan Furnas and Faye Helen (Fermi) Furnas. Mitchel grew up in Brownville, Nebraska, attending the Methodist Church and Brownville Public School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1973. Later that year Mitchel enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He received an honorable discharge for medical reasons. Mitchel was married to Debbie Reeves, with whom he had a daughter, Patricia. The couple later divorced. On May 20, 1989 he was united in marriage to Ann Her- mes in Okoboji. They made their home in Iowa, and would be blessed with a daughter, Samantha. In his younger years in Brownville Mitchel worked for the Clifton Carnival and the Brownville House.
