SOPHIA HALAS WELCH

for Sophia Halas Welch,
who died Wednesda Oct.
16. She was born March 25,
2013 to Brian and Shelby
(Gierstorf) Welch.
In her short time on this
earth she made big im-

OBITUARY
MARY JANE PRAY
A Mass of Celebration
was held Monday, Oct, 14,
at Bishop Drumm Chapel
for Mary Jane Pray, who
died Thursday, Oct. 10, at
Bishop Drumm Health
Center in Johnston.
Mrs. Pray was born on
a farm near Wick in War-
ren County, the daughter
of William Wick and Mar-
tha Pixler Monroe. She
graduated from Martens-
dale High School in 1934
and from Simpson Col-
lege's two-year degree
program. She finished her
college education at Drake
University, receiving her
BS degree in Elementary
Education. She retired af-
ter teaching 30 years in
Polk, Warren and Madison
counties.
After retiring, Mrs. Pray
taught piano in her home
and was church organist in
several Catholic churches.
She also entertained at the
Knoxville Veterans Hospi-
tal as a pianist. In 1983 she
represented Warren Coun-
ty at the "Older Iowan's
Legislature" in the State
Capital as part of "Cross
Roads of Iowa Agency."
During World War II,
Mrs. Pray was a typist at
Seattle-Tacoma Shipyard
Offices in Tacoma, WA.
Her husband was sta-
tioned at Ft. Lewis, WA in
the 183rd F.A. Battalion.
She later wrote a column
of feature stories for the
Warren County Record-
Herald News for 10 years.
Mrs. Pray and her hus-
band, John, were married
Mary Jane Pray
62 years. They enjoyed
their family life with son,
Jack (Marsha) Pray and
daughter, Joanna (Dewitt)
Jones; grandchildren,
Meghan (Doug) Hirsch,
Ryan (Stacy) Pray, Justin
(Maureen) Jones and Jere-
my Jones; four great-
grandchildren, Parker and
Connor Hirsch, Hailey
Russell and Delaney Jones.
Mrs. Pray was a mem-
be'r of St. T13omas Aquinas
Catholic Church in Indi-
anola where she served as
organist for several years.
She was also a member of
A.A.U.W., P.T.A. and the
Indianola American Le-
gion Auxiliary Post #165.

OBITUARY
JENNIFER ALLISON
A memorial service was held Thursda3 Oct. 17, at
Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel in Des
Moines for Jennifer Allison, 37, Des Moines, who died
Friday, Oct. 11, at Hospice Kavanagh House from can-
cer.
Ms. Allison was born November 1, 1975 in Des
Moines to Donald and Trish Allison. She graduated from
Dowling High School and earned her BA in Communi-
cations from the University of Iowa. She began her ca-
reer at ITN (Independent Television Network) in New
York City and then in 2001 joined WHO TV News as a
Graphic Artist, where she worked until March 2013.
Survivors include her mother, Trish Allison of
Altoona; sister, Melissa (Paul) Blankenhaen of
Norwalk; niece, Isabella; nephews, Max and Alexander;
grandmother, Evelyn Allison of Des Moines and other
relatives.
Preceding her in death were her father, Donald, and
grandparents, Richard Allison and Dale and LaVon Ives.
