ter in Warren County Juvenile Court. He admitted that his reckless actions caused
• the death of James Doyle. Nadler .was found guilty by Judge Richard Clogg and
placed in Woodward Academy. He will be under the supervision of Juvenile Court
Services until July 12, 2013, his 18 m birthday, as. provided for in the Iowa Code.
When a young person under t8 years of age is accused of a serious criminal of-
fense, such as murder, the County Attorney must decide whether to ask the Juvenile
Court to transfer, or waive; the case to the Adult Court. In this case, Daniel Nadler
was charged with Murder and a motion wa.s filed asking that he be tried as an adult.
The motion is filed within tefi (10) days of the date the child was charged with the
delinquent act: In this case, due t.othe seriousnessof the act, the motion to waive was
filed. After a two-day hearing on the motion for jurisdiction the Juvenile Court Judge
entered a ruling denying the motion and the case remained in the Juvenile Court.
Daniel Nadler was found guilty of committing a delinquent act, which is, any
public offense/criminal act that if committed by a person over 18 would be a crime. " -8"-
Juvenile Court •differs from the •Adult Court in that, all crimes, regardless of the se-
verity, are 'considered delinquent acts and can result in an out of home placement
until the child reaches the age of 18. The Courts further differ in that the goal of the
Juvenile Court is not to just punish, but instead to provide services to rehabilitate the
child while protecting the piblic. Whether the charge pled to is murder or man-
slaughter, the:juvenile Court has jurisdiction over•Daniel Nadler unffl.the day he
