Page Ten N/Warren Town and County News Thursday, December 19, 2013 By Tracee Saltz DCG Meet 2013 Norwalk at Dallas Center-Grimes - Warriors vs. Mustangs Welcome to Warrior Wrestling Season! What a way to kick off the season. The Warriors traveled to Dallas Center-Grimes to wrestle the Mustangs. The meet began with the Jun- ior Varsity wrestlers. JV Warriors that secured pins were Chase Rudolph, Trevor Baack, Zach Cook and Travis Bockholt. Con- gratulations to them! The Varsity half began with the 132 weight class. Wrestling at 132 for Nor- walk was senior Warrior, Zach Johnston. Johnston secured a pin against the Mustang sophomore wrestler, Reed Hillenga (132) in the first period. Jmmediately after this, Warrior wrestler Ryley Smith (138) secures a sec- Ond pin over DCG's Zac Ross (138). Norwalk stays "on fire" when, up next, we watch Norwalk's Hunter En- gland (145) secure yet a third pin over DCG's Dal- las Miles (145). This brings us to a team score of Nor- walk: 18, DCG: 0. I cannot describe what an exciting beginning to the season this was. Of course, in most adventure stories, things often take a twist and that is exactly what happens when our War- rior wrestler, Casey Ru- dolph (152), comes up against Mustang wrestler, Nick Brushaber (152). These two go three periods before Brushaber takes the round over Rudolph with a Period 3 final score of 4 to 2. Jesse Cowie (160) comes to the mat next for Norwalk. He goes three Norwalk Varsity Wrestl00'LiLg periods against Logan Buck (160) of DCG, until Buck wins the match with a score of 6 to 2. DCG gets on the board. Not only do they get on the scoreboard, their next wrestler, Blake Wolinski (170),wins the next match against our Nathan Johnston (170) with a Pe- riod 3 score of 9 to 4. Things do not look up for our Warriors just yet when up next we have Dusten Saltz (182) for Norwalk come up against Dakota Clausen (182) for DCG. Saltz and Clausen battle for three full periods end- ing with a score of 7 to 5, DCG. Our next Warrior wrestler, Zach Swanson (195), also goes three peri- ods against Mustang wres- tler, Levi Smith (195). Smith wins the match by point. Ryan Kennedy (220) comes up to the mat for the Warriors to face Mustang wrestler, Cole Baker (220). Baker secures the fall over Kermedy which brings our team scores now to Nor- walk 8, Dallas Center- Grimes 21. Just like all good adven- ture stories though, things take a turn for Norwalk when junior Warrior, Trys- tan Minnis (285), wrestles up a weight class and se- cures a fall over DCG's Bryce Shutt (285), putting Norwalk back in the lead. It just gets better for us when Dylan Lane (106) se- cures a pin victory over Mustang wrestler, Ben Carr (106). Right after one Dylan gets done, we watch Norwalk's Dylan DeFreece (113) battle for three peri- ods against DCG's Bryce Murano (113) ending their match with an impressive major decisioned score of 10 to zero, Norwalk. Dallas Center-Grimes sends out senior Trevor Murano (120) to wrestle our Chase Fouts (120). Murano secures the fall for DCG. Team scores now stand at Norwalk, 34, Dal- las Center-Grimes 27. Our final match of the meet has our Warrior wrestler, Alan Moore (126), going up against Aaron Anderson (126). Moore secures the fall for Norwalk making the final scores, Norwalk 40, Dallas Center-Grimes 27. What a way to start off a season. We can expect an exciting season this year. Norwalk at Jefferson The Varsity guys trav- eled to Jefferson for their first tournament of the sea- son. In the matches against the Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets, our War- riors defeated the Midgets with a team score of Nor- walk 52, ELC 24. Blake Hoover (160), Zach Swan- son (195), Trystan Minnis (220), Dylan DeFreece (113) and Alan Moore (126) all secured falls for Norwalk. At this tournament, the Warriors also wrestled with the Greene County Rams, coming out with a win over them. Team scores: Norwalk 46, Greene County 20. Nathan Johnston (170) and Dusten Saltz (182) were two War- riors who secured falls. The Warriors also faced South Central Calhoun at Jefferson. Once again our Warriors pulled a win with a final team score of Nor- walk 49 and South Central 19. Zach Johnston (132) won the award for the fast- est pin of the day. Johnston pinned his opponent in 24 seconds! The Norwalk Warriors walked away the Tournament Champions. Way to go, Warriors! Dylan Lane (106) at Dallas Center-Grimes. Zach Johnston (132), who won for the fastest pin. He pinned his opponent in 24 seconds. Ryley Smith (160). Smith is a junior at Norwalk High School.
